Will Democrats block probe of a Russian op against Trump?
NY Post ^ | July 28, 2017 | Post Editorial Board

Why are Democrats protecting the Beltway smear-specialist firm Fusion GPS? Specifically, why are the party’s senators supporting Fusion chief Glenn Simpson in his refusal to say who paid to get that infamous President Trump-smearing “Russian dossier” drawn up?

As The Wall Street Journal’s Kimberly A. Strassel notes, Dem senators even passed on the chance to publicly question Jared Kushner and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, rather than also expose Simpson to public questioning.

Maybe Democrats simply didn’t want anything to mess up their “collusion” narrative. Or perhaps they fear their own party used Fusion to commission the hit.

She’s not the only one on the case. Writing at Tablet, the Hudson Institute’s Lee Smith notes that perhaps the “dossier” was another Russian effort to interfere in US politics — an anti-Trump one to match Moscow’s work to undermine Hillary Clinton.

Because, Smith reminds us, “the point of the Kremlin’s assault on the American election of 2016 was to defame both candidates, and sow chaos, and thereby to discredit the American system of government, which rests on the consent of the governed.”

Fabricating such dossiers looks to be a Fusion specialty. Smith and Strassel both point to the Senate testimony of Bill Browder and Thor Halvorssen, each claiming to have been targeted by a Fusion dossier.

Browder was a force behind passage of the Magnitsky Act, a sanctions law that hits hard at Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and which Fusion was hired to help fight. Halvorssen is a human-rights activist (and occasional Post-Opinion contributor) who was publicizing corrupt maneuvers by Derwick Associates, a Venezuelan firm with deep ties to the Chavez regime that had partnered with Putin cronies.

As Smith notes, it’s not just Democrats in Congress who have reason to shield Fusion.

I don't see how a minority party in a government that is completely controlled by the GOP can block anything unless the majority party is cooperating. Drain the swamp.

As he has little time left, I’m sure that the Dhimmicrats will blame the whole thing on Juan McStain, after he is unable mentally to defend himself, or else dead.

After all, if you can blame it all on a dead man, justice is avoided by all the guilty who remain alive.

Why do republicans allow this? The dossier was based on Russian sources. By definition Russia interfered with Trump’s campaign. By definition, didn’t John McCain collude with Russia against Trump?

Its obvious the democrats already set McCain up by having him deliver the dossier. Why was John McCain the go to guy on (fake) foreign intelligence against Trump?

I don’t know. These Progressive beltway animal are up to their neck in sedition.

Rico the Clinton organization complete with asset forfeiture. Almost all the money they received was through graft and kickbacks and quid pro quo.

They are guilty. Skip the FBI and normal police route. Use the secret service and DHS. Give this job to Military intelligence and investigators. Arrest the lot of them. Take their assets and flip some by rewarding them with the very assets taken as a reward.

Can’t set up someone who is a willing participant. McQueeg has been a Democrat operative for some time. Look at his effortless charade in 2008 to deliberately elect Zero.

A blessing in disguise IMHO. McCain would have pushed for amnesty much harder than 0bama did. He would have given the rinos cover. There were enough rinos in the house to easily pass it. The senate already passed it with a filibuster proof majority. We dodged a bullet.

I can’t see why the Russians would bother. Our own Congress has done a fantastic job of discrediting the American system of government and dismissing concerns of the people.

You are correct, the Democrats can only do these things if they are empowered by the Republicans. In the case of blocking Fusion GPS and the truth from coming to light, Sen Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, allowed the Democrats to flex more muscle than they have.

Grassley is also allowing the 2 Communist Senators from Minnesota to block qualified judicial appointments, even though there is no law or Senate rule allowing them to do so.

He could stop it all with a few words out of his mouth. But he won't.

In fact, the most energized Grassley became in the last week was to launch an attack on President Trump, who had the temerity to tell the truth about the hapless and neutered Jeff Sessions.

He did.

When it came out that not only had McCain peddled this "dossier" to his Obama contacts at the FBI, but had sent a personal aid on a plane over the Atlantic to personally retrieve a hard copy of it in Europe, McCain immediately knew he had been exposed, and went into damage control.

Using his media skills of appearing on Sunday news programs hundreds of times, he knew he had to the negative information "out there" before he as immersed in scandal himself. He also knew the media would be friendly to him. So he threw out some wild lines about how what a "good citizen" he was and that peddling this crap was something "any loyal citizen would do."

Millions of enraged citizens surrounding the Capitol could actually do that. They should think about that as they continue to scheme to remove Trump.

It began as a Russian operation, but the Fusion GPS disinformation dossier was repurposed into an attack plan against Trump after he unexpectedly won.

A critical aspect to understand is that Clinton, Comey, Lynch, Brennan, Baker (FBI general counsel), Powers and Rice could all wind up in prison for actual felonies committed. They bet the farm on Hillary’s election, and continuing coverup of their crimes, while they held the reins of power. With Trump as POTUS, all bets are off, and they are going for broke with the deep state coup, to save their own necks by taking out Trump before they are taken out.
