Trump pushes out Priebus, names DHS’ Kelly WH chief of staff

WASHINGTON (AP) — His White House in turmoil, President Donald Trump abruptly announced late Friday he was appointing Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to be his chief of staff, ending the tumultuous six-month tenure of Reince Priebus.

After months of speculation about Priebus’ fate, Trump tweeted his decision just as he landed in Washington after a speech in New York in which he lavishly praised Kelly’s performance at Homeland Security.

Priebus, the former Republican National Committee head, was the frequent target of rumors about his job security amid infighting and confusion within the White House and a long whisper campaign by Trump allies. Then, he was the subject of a remarkable public rebuke on Thursday by the new White House communications director.

Priebus told allies that he had offered his resignation to Trump on Thursday.

Trump’s announcement on Twitter said, “I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff. He is a Great American … and a Great Leader. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security. He has been a true star of my Administration.”

Who gets the Secretary of DHS job now?

President Trump can appoint an acting secretary of his own choosing.

If he doesn’t appoint someone else, Elain Duke, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, automatically moves up into the slot.

She’s anti-border wall and another Obama holdover.

Although she has been around in the federal government since the Dark Ages and did work in the George Dubya Bush administration.

As far as I am concerned he can put Delta forces. Marines etc into all key positions.

Well, in my opinion were probably not too far from a military coup, seize the state, a complete take over of the Federal government in D.C. so the traitors in the government can be dealt with swiftly. Maybe this is what is needed to right the country. I dunno.

The way things are, it might be the only way to right the ship of state. It would not upset me in any way.

Wouldn’t the DHS Secretary have to be confirmed by the Senate? Trump might be counting on an easy confirmation for a postition as critical as Homeland Security. An easy confirmation, then he could replace Sessions with the new person. A cabinet level person wouldn’t need confirmation to switch to another cabinet level position.

Priebus had his uses and was the right man for the time. That time has passed.

QUIT? Priebus knew his days were over. Priebus is the original RNC “we’ll get rid of Obamacare” if you give us this and that.

LOL! Hardly. Trump'll throw Reince back to his Cheap Labor Express buddies, and after Tom Donohue's done with him, Priebus will have to be looking up to see the top of the street curb.

“Genius political stagecraft”

I pray to God that I hope your right. Our Republic is at stake.

This presidency is a combination of total calmness and confidence mixed with severe nail biting.

I still trust him but I keep praying.

Started paying attention to politics when I discovered Buckley on Firing Line in grade school. My dad thought I was the weirdest 6th grader on the planet. (I thought his Bostonian accent was a hoot.)

After that during high school and college, Sunday morning talking heads.

Lordy have things changed. Our cultural has changed and not for the better. The rats are wining that war.
