Many people had been questioning whether or not Trump had the authority to act unilaterally.

And they will continue to do so if they don't have the full picture.
A Presidential Memorandum, it seems, is all it takes to change everything.

Will it get done? Who knows.

Where’s captain obvious? We’ve been saying this for seven years. These lawmakers have no skin in the game, so they don’t shiv-a-git.

Really? I had understood all exchange subsidies to be phased out at something like 4x the poverty level, which of course the congress critters would exceed.

The author needs a lesson in the US Constitution.

Separation of powers means the President has no constitutional authority to regulate the Legislature. He can use his bully pulpit to shame them into changing their own rules, but he has no power to unilaterally change their rules.

They wrote a law exempting themselves from the law. The President can’t fix that with a stroke of his pen. He has no constitutional authority.

I stand corrected. Trump can do this, and immediately should.

Thank you for a highly informative post that cleared everything up.

Sen. Grassley was able to get an amendment passed that required Congress and staff to buy insurance on the Exchanges. Obama’s Office of Personnel Management reinterpreted the law to make the amendment meaningless. Fund is arguing for the Trump Administration to reinstate the intent of Grassley’s amendment.

I've been predicting for months that he would do it as a last resort if Congress didn't come through. And now here we are.

Personally, I think a lot of Republicans -- and a lot of Democrats, too -- would love him to do exactly that because it saves them the trouble of voting for it themselves and pissing off their donors.

It’s not a subsidy. When they forced Congress to use the Obamacare exchanges they realized that everyone was going to have to pay for their own insurance when before the taxpayers had supplied it. They also realized it was bad optics to give everyone a huge raise to cover their insurance costs so.....they declared Congress a small business so that the government could continue paying their insurance costs....on the Obamacare Washington DC exchange. Then the Washington DC exchange created a bunch of different gold plans so the people, yeah right, Congress, would have a bunch of different plans to choose from.
Yeah, really.

The best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it vigorously.

Lincoln, I think.

It would let the self proclaimed “elitist” politicians understand that they are the same as the electorate they hold in contempt. Not above everyone else.
