How the Justice Dept. is forcing sanctuary cities to cooperate with immigration agents

The Justice Department issued a new warning to sanctuary cities Tuesday, saying they must prove they fully cooperate with immigration agents in order to claim federal law enforcement grant money.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said jurisdictions that don’t allow federal agents into their prisons and jails, and that refuse to give at least 48 hours’ notice before releasing illegal immigrants, will lose money.

“This is what the American people should be able to expect from their cities and states, and these long overdue requirements will help us take down MS-13 and other violent transnational gangs, and make our country safer,” he said.

“Unless Sessions is replaced by someone as committed to enforcing our border laws as he is (which isn’t likely to happen, given some of the names that are being floated), I want him to stay right where he is.”

There is so much huge money and power with the keeping the illegals flowing into America! We will see this constant crap against Trump, Sessions and others flowing out to protect the income and power connected with keeping illegals here and coming here.

How long till they find a judge to stop this?

Not long. More than one federal court has ruled it is a violation for local authorities to keep someone - even an illegal immigrant - detained in jail after they are otherwise free to go/the reason for their detention was resolved.

These cities are giving non-citizens de facto citizenship. This is illegal. It is not the right of cities or states to grant or revoke citizenship. (The federal government, obviously).

How the Justice Dept. is forcing sanctuary cities to cooperate with immigration agents follow the law. Thanks. It is so simple. If the liberals don't like our laws, change them.

Cause as they all learn in law school the power of the purse lies with the Judiciary.

Wait a minute...

Just as soon as the 9th Circus Court of Appeals wakes up on the West Coast.

I’d be fine with sanctuary cities if
1) They get NO federal law enforcement funds
2) Benefit programs are frequently and aggressively audited to ensure no other federal funds go to illegals (also will catch other fraud). Not just food stamps, but federal education money should not go to schools with high percentage of illegals. Cities that want illegals can pay for educating them along with all the other costs.
3) No ICE agents operate in the city - but many are on the city limits monitoring who leaves (entry is ok but illegals won’t want to leave for day jobs).
4) Other cities can advertise heavily which cities illegals should migrate to

Let the voters in those cities decide what to do next. And let cities that don’t want illegals get more financial aid and ICE help.

RE:”The warning was attached to the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program, which doles out nearly $400 million in funds

Just $400 million total for all the cities involved?

Oh brother!

Until I have good reason to believe these things are happening I will continue to agitate to relieve Mr. Sessions of his duties

That's terrific, keep on agitatin'. And when Mr. Sessions is replaced by an advocate of amnesty and open borders like Rudy Giuliani or Chris Christie, what will you be agitating for? I take it you don't have any problem with Sanctuary Cities, because that's exactly what you're going to get with those guys.

You guys can KMA with your battered conservative syndrome...Put up or GTFO.

I'll start taking orders from a dim-witted, juvenile blowhard like you when pigs fly.

There should be criminal penalties of some sort against the mayors, for obstructing an investigation perhaps.

There are criminal laws, but Sessions and DHS/ICE are just pussy footing around with funding denials. Last I heard each count of harboring, aiding or abetting an alien was a five year felony. 8 U.S.C 1324.

Why would an “illegal alien” be free to go anywhere except back where he came from???

Illegal is illegal, no matter how you say it....

We should start charging municipal and state officials with harboring illegal aliens if they do not cooperate with removing illegal aliens from our country.

Serious prison time for a few will help the others get their minds right.

Employers need to be prosecuted as well.

You’re right.

Also I’m guessing if this doesn’t work to get Sanctuary Cities in line Sessions will have a nice little back-up surprise for the mayors...

Prior to announcing the criminal charges, arrest warrants should be served and learning the charges takes place from a holding room inside a jail.

The arrest warrants should include at a minimum the third layer and up. Rather than one or two, there are dozens complicit that must be arrested for following orders. Per city, a minimum of 50 or so arrests are required.

Fear of flight criteria must be established to insure bail is adequate to assure presence in court at the appointed time.

The left must learn the hard way that obstruction of governance is not a free ride.

Exactly battered conservative syndrome....

“OMG my husband beats me but I can’t leave him, it could be so much worse!!! And I probably deserve it anyway!!!”

You think Patton would fidget and stress over relieving a commander that wasn’t getting it done when he was rescuing Bastogne because he was AFRAID the replacement would be worse?

“7For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power...”

You need to get yourself uncucked lol

Interestingly, federal allow does not allow for judicial review in certain aspects of state support.

TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER II > Part IV > § 1226. Apprehension and detention of aliens

(a) Arrest, detention, and release

On a warrant issued by the Attorney General, an alien may be arrested and detained pending a decision on whether the alien is to be removed from the United States. Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section and pending such decision, the Attorney General—

...

(e) Judicial review

The Attorney General’s discretionary judgment regarding the application of this section shall not be subject to review. No court may set aside any action or decision by the Attorney General under this section regarding the detention or release of any alien or the grant, revocation, or denial of bond or parole.

The whole section is available at the link above.
