Drive-Bys Still Don’t Know Trump Voters

RUSH: Dan in Wilmington, Delaware. Glad you waited. You’re next on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Mega dittos and I’m gonna throw in a semper fi. I am of the opinion that Sessions should have been canned outright the day he refused himself.

RUSH: Can you hang on here for a second since you just brought that up? I want to play a sound bite, and I want you to react to it. You mind if I do this?

CALLER: No, go ahead.

RUSH: It will be like a test-marketing little miniature survey. Hang on with me. This is CNN today. Fredo Cuomo was speaking with David Gregory, who’s a former host of Meet the Press and he’s now an analyst at CNN, and Fredo said to David Gregory, “What do you make of the posturing towards the attorney general by our president?” It’s what Gregory says here, Dan, that I want you to listen to and react to.

GREGORY: This president wants to shame Jeff Sessions into resigning. He has no regard for the independence of the Department of Justice or the rule of law. I think he’ll fire his attorney general. I think he may make a move on the special counsel. Does the president think that he’s going to get some loyalist to him confirmed by the United States Senate? I mean, that is crazy. I think Republicans might on this one finally balk a little bit, given how popular Sessions is among conservatives and indeed among the kind of, you know, nativist right that counts as a big part of Trump nation.

RUSH: Okay, Dan, so you are part of the nativist, nationalistic populist right, and you love Sessions, and Gregory thinks that you’re gonna be fit to be tied at Trump if he gets rid of Sessions. But I don’t think I heard you say that.

CALLER: No, I did not say that. I’m also a proud deplorable. If you go back to the day after the election when the Democrats pushed this deal about Russia and they pushed it and they pushed it and just kept going and going for months and months and months. And then all at once they got Flynn. Nobody knows why they got Flynn, but they got Flynn.

So let’s look at the Trump hierarchy. Who in that Trump hierarchy could they roll? They weren’t gonna roll the family. They weren’t gonna roll the tight grip that surrounds Trump, the six or eight people that surround Trump. They’re not gonna roll them. Who’s the outsider here that they could possibly roll and open this thing up immeasurably? And that would be Jeff Sessions. Jeff Sessions shook hands with the ambassador something, some kind of meet-and-greet or something.

RUSH: Ho-ho.

CALLER: And that was his crime. And now we’ve got Sessions recusing himself. He didn’t look over his shoulder to see who was behind him. And we got the fellow that I call — well, let’s not get into that.

RUSH: Aw, come on, why not? Tell me why not.

CALLER: No, I’d rather not right now, Rush. But the Rosenstein. They got Rosenstein from Baltimore, Maryland, the hotbed of conservatism. They’ve got a whole bunch of people behind him who are all probably Obama holdovers.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: So when they got rid of Sessions, they opened up that whole left flank about the Russian thing —

RUSH: Okay, so let me cut to the chase.

CALLER: — somebody in that system —

RUSH: Let me cut to the chase. What the left thinks, the media thinks that so many of Trump’s supporters love Sessions. They think this of Bannon too. They think that you love Sessions, that you are nativists and that you are conservatives, and you love Sessions because of immigration, and if Trump fires him, you are gonna stand with Sessions. And what I hear you saying is you think Sessions should have been gone after he recused himself, that he —

CALLER: On the get-go. And the thing is when he opened this whole thing up, as they say with a vacuum, somebody’s gotta fill it, and this time it was all the Democratic legal people.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: They filled that vacuum, and — well, I’m gonna say it anyway. Pajama Boy from Maryland, pajama man now I guess —

RUSH: You’re talking about Rosenstein, I guess, Pajama Boy.

CALLER: Yes, I am.

RUSH: ‘Cause there’s a lot of pajama boys up there. You have to identify which one you’re talking about.

CALLER: Pajama man. He’s older than a boy. Pajama man.

RUSH: Well, here’s the point of this, folks. Here’s the point. I maintain to you once again that the Drive-Bys and the left still don’t know the people that voted for Donald Trump. They have been living under a misconception of who voted for Trump and why from the moment Trump began to build this bond with his voters during the primaries. You hear Gregory there, I’m sure he speaks for all, nativist.

That’s not a complimentary term, by the way. You know what nativist is? You nativists, to hell with the rest of the world. As far as you’re concerned, it can burn. You don’t care. You’re tired of paying for it, and you’re tired of giving foreign aid to it, and you’re tired of being run by it. To hell with them! You want a wall and America’s gonna be great. If somebody wants to help us and join us be great, that’s fine. But that’s what they think you are. That’s what they think the average Trump voter is. And a nativist is also, by definition, a conservative. They hate conservatives too.

So they think that Trump firing Sessions will essentially be a betrayal of Trump voters. What they don’t get at least in the case of Dan here — and I’m sure that he represents a certain percentage of thinking among Trump voters — that Trump isn’t the problem here, that Sessions is. And that if Trump does fire him, it’s not gonna hurt Trump with these people.

But they are so focused, the media, the establishment, they are so focused on being able to damage Trump and say that they did it, that they are applying the normal thinking and behavioral patterns of inside-the-Beltway and the swamp and projecting that onto Trump and his voters, and it’s not close. So they still are laboring under a massive misconception here.

In other words, they think Trump firing Sessions would be one of the beginnings of Trump breaking his bond with you. And from what I’m hearing, Trump supporters think that Sessions should not have recused himself, they haven’t been happy from the moment he did.

I like Sessions but I’m NOT bailing out on Trump under any circumstances.

I think we are all that way, except for those who were never on his side to begin with. What’s funny is most of those people were mad at Sessions for supporting Trump. I will be sad if Sessions gets canned, but because of what a great service he did for Trump in the campaign, not because of what he has done as AG. As AG, he has done a great disservice, and the effects of his mistakes are coming to fruition for the deep state.

I don’t understand why they don’t just get rid of Rosenstein, and then have the woman below him, who is solid, fire Mueller and end this charade.

One of Trump's life challenges is to motivate Establishment Republicans... I suspect it feels to Trump like pushing a string. Our guy's are use to losing... that has to change.

Sessions is a good man but he needs to DO the job - including the hard parts.

That includes opening up an investigation into Clinton, the DNC, and the weird-as-all-get-out IT Iranians working for Debbie Wasserman Schultz... Sessions is moving on the illegals - and that's great... But Session's can't waste time on low-level marijuana dealers. He's got to take on the "A" projects and NOT spend a second on 'cleaning his desk"... If Sessions can do that he's the man for the job. He's a good man... and a credit to the team.
