Racist? How is citizenship racist? She wanted the adulation of her radical friends.
I-10 east of El Paso has the same permanent expressway checkpoint. It would catch only the most stupid.
These checkpoints are nothing new...been around for over 40+ and longer years.
An obvious Leftist stunt to display as part of “the resistance”.
“Use some common sense.”
My friend and I were just noting how Americans (even ‘conservatives’ here) love to publicly hate something (being PC, I guess), and then frequent it - in our case, McDonalds and Walmart. When articles on those places appear, I defend them full force.
In this case, it’s like TSA. We want border security, and we want to fly safely, but we, I guess, want it done through some kind of magic. Now if you ask the whiners, they’ll say something like “I know we need what TSA does, but they have no reason to search me, as I’ll never skyjack a plane.” likewise here “What the hell is wrong with the Border Patrol, don’t they know I’m a US citizen?”
So “Show me your papers” is o.k. with you?” It’s a sad day when our citizens are not free to roam about our country without that prospect being held over their heads. “Showing your papers” should be reserved for our borders. All of this “inland border station” crap would not be necessary if our government had followed our nation’s immigration laws for the past 50 years as well as you think we citizens should be obligated to today because of that failure.
So now we have laws requiring citizens to show proof they are in fact citizens as a consequence of the basic border security laws being ignored for a half century. I’ve been through an “inland boarder station” and I have complied with their stupid request, because it’s easier than making an issue of it. That said it’s ineffective as a tool because they ask, you tell (without having to show anything to prove you are being truthful) and you are on your way. So in the main, we are simply pissing away resources with a “show of force” that doesn’t accomplish much if anything except paying the BP officers and for their “inland station.”
We, as citizens should have demanded better long ago.
I’ve driven all over that area in the past and never seen a checkpoint inside the USA except when going into Arizona back in 1957.
Only time I ever saw a checkpoint in New Mexico was after the first weekend of deer season when wardens were checking all cars for illegal deer.
If the manpower were on the border we wouldn’t need internal check points.

Well Davy with those investigative skills I don’t understand how you ever found a bear. They were already in the U. S.
In a word, YES! All those poor invaders being killed will prompt the progressive morons to stop fighting the WALL, which will save numerous lives!
All paved roads leading out of El Paso have them; sometimes many miles from the city. Las Cruces is inside the perimeter so if you go there for any reason from northern or southeastern NM, you will be stopped when returning north. There may be some gravel roads that don't have checkpoints but they are patrolled by BP SUV's. Also at the checkpoints, they may have a drug dog sniff your vehicle as well.
There is a semi-permanent check point on the freeway from Tucson to Nogales. If you look at the map there are very few roads in the desert that bypass this point. It is 28 miles from the border.

Was this the location of the one you saw in 1957?

Exactly. Kinda strange that everywhere the state fails, it also creates an opportunity for tyranny. What are the odds.
