The Trump administration is readying for a crackdown on marijuana users under Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
President Trumps Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, led by Sessions, is expected to release a report next week that criminal justice reform advocates fear will link marijuana to violent crime and recommend tougher sentences for those caught growing, selling and smoking the plant.
Sessions sent a memo in April updating the U.S. Attorneys Offices and Department of Justice Department (DOJ) component heads on the work of the task force, which he said would be accomplished through various subcommittees. In the memo, Sessions said he has asked for initial recommendations no later than July 27.
Task Force subcommittees will also undertake a review of existing policies in the areas of charging, sentencing, and marijuana to ensure consistency with the Department's overall strategy on reducing violent crime and with Administration goals and priorities, he wrote.
Criminal justice reform advocates fear Sessionss memo signals stricter enforcement is ahead.
The task force revolves around reducing violent crime and Sessions and other DOJ officials have been out there over the last month and explicitly the last couple of weeks talking about how immigration and marijuana increases violent crime, said Inimai Chettiar, director of the Brennan Center's Justice Program.

Since I've been retired for 15 years, and no longer have access to such records, I can't provide you with specific cases, nor the crimes they were originally charged with. Not all juvenile crimes were made a part of their official records. It depended on the severity of the crime, and if they were charged as an adult.
What is the old saying, “The proof is in the pudding”?
Yes, I have to say from everything I have seen Sessions is behaving like a swamp creature trying to submarine our President.
I would like to believe otherwise. But to my knowledge Sessions hasn’t done one darn thing to prove otherwise or provide support since he was appointed.
Many things offend the deep state, even something as innocuous as winning an election.
Can you think of anything yourself that might fit the bill?
I know he didn't offend the deep state when he recused himself. Does that qualify?
Or perhaps this...Jeff Sessions asks 46 Obama-appointed U.S. attorneys to resign
Sessions' action comes the same day that White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer addressed the specter of a "deep state" of bureaucrats trying to harm President Trump's agenda.
It's so hard to tell without cue cards.
And the MenSeekingMen haven’t bitched once about Jeff since confirmation.
FWIW I think Sessions’ policies on border control have supported Trump’s agenda and do offend the Deep State and the globalists. (which in many respects are one and the same)
I have no leftist inclination. You do.
Here’s your hero obammie, whom you parrot:

Look, Ive been very clear about my belief that we should try to discourage substance abuse. And I am not somebody who believes that legalization is a panacea, he said in the interview, making his Dad-ness clear. But then he dropped in an unexpected bit of Cool: But I do believe that treating this as a public-health issue, the same way we do with cigarettes or alcohol, is the much smarter way to deal with it.
The line was Trump was the circus when in actuality the circus was already in town.
Oh, I really hit the mark with that one. Such angst!
Policy is one thing, implementation is another.
LOL
Statists like to play the “leftist card” the way BLM likes to play the Race Card.
I believe that tactic is called the Red Herring.
I know a lot of users, too. More than you. Longer than you.
Dope is going to make America a great nation. A better society. Guaranteed.
Now, go have fun. Fun, fun, fun.
I may be misinformed but the stats that have been published lately on arrests, deportations and fewer border crossings are what I was going by. I’ve been under the impression that there has been a pretty good crackdown.
I don’t trust any of the Congress Critters - especially those who have been around a long time. I believe your analysis to be correct that he is possibly a plant. Someone pointed out Sessions is supporting the wall. I would like to believe that and would like to see it materialize even more. But from what I see, Sessions is doing a really poor job supporting our President.
Criminal illegal aliens are the problem, not the non criminal illegal aliens.
That was Stephen Miller’s doing.
I guess I take that position to mean that he is prioritizing the violent criminals over the non-violent. Maybe I’m too trusting. I don’t expect Trump to accomplish everything in just a few months. Nor do I expect him to ignore failures of his agenda if he doesn’t get the results he expects.
I also don’t think that deportations and border control are the most effective measures that can be taken to eliminate illegal aliens from our soil. Never have.
The AG implements policy.
Miller is who got Jeff in the door.
You see Steve M. in the war room.
I stand corrected. The story philman pointed out, “...Jeff Sessions asks 46 Obama-appointed U.S. attorneys to resign” I was unaware of or forgot that.
So I am hoping this ‘move’ of going after pot smokers, asset forfeiture grabs, and lack of going after swamp creatures and other evil doers are mere fake news, misreporting, or a better plan to combat the swamp.
Here’s to hoping Sessions is a true Constitutional American. Here’s to hoping he is planning his strategies and I am totally missing the big picture on this. Hope he proves himself honorably. Hoping.
