A final tally: Ossoff raised nearly $30M in 6th District race

Democrat Jon Ossoff wound up raising nearly $30 million for his unsuccessful campaign to represent Georgia’s 6th District – by far the most ever raised in a U.S. House contest – and spent almost every last dime of it.

Campaign filing reports released this week show Ossoff raised about $6.3 million in the final three weeks of the vote and pumped in another $300,000 of his own money – $50,000 from a contribution and $250,000 in loans – in the last stretch. All told, he raised $29,959,740 and had about $13,000 left.

Republican Karen Handel, a former Georgia secretary of state, earlier filed paperwork showing she raised $6.3 million throughout the campaign and has $430,000 left for what could be another grueling election bid to represent the suburban Atlanta district.

Campaign records show spending in the race, which pitted 18 candidates competing to succeed U.S. Rep. Tom Price, hovered beyond $60 million to become the most expensive election of its kind. The contest set one spending record after another as it became a nationally-watched proxy fight over Donald Trump, the healthcare overhaul and the battle for suburbia.

He may have raised that much, but it mostly did NOT come from the 6th district. On second thought, he probably didn’t have much to do with raising it at all.

With that $13,000 he should be able to rent an apartment and at a minimum pretend to live in the district, at least until the next election.

It's just too weird. It's like God is still on the side of the Republicans. They keep messing up, totally, governing. On the plus side, they do keep US ideals alive during campaign season with their promises.

The dems would've won this one. All they had to do was run someone who actually lived in the district, and was an established and respected US citizen.

I feel like it's the movie Ground Hog Day. BOTH political parties keep doing the same stupid stuff. And no one actually wants to legislate effectively and save the nation. Except, of course, for President Trump and us Deplorables.

FWIW, Handel fought the Holder JD over voter ID, and won, as Secretary of State.

Yep, good question, as to whether Ossoff is still the darling of the left and the Hollywood idiots who pushed his campaign.

Where is he now; what does he do for a living? Where is his office, his place of employment? How does he pay his bills?

Off topic, but Ossoff telling us about his live in girlfriend tells a lot about changes in social mores and such in recent decades. Years ago no politician would talk about having a live in girlfriend. He seemingly bragged about it, in so far as he was saying how supportive he is of her, yadda, yadda, yadda. Yet he also said they aren’t married.

Why did he repeatedly tell us about his live in girlfriend?? Was he wanting to reassure all of us that he is not a homosexual???

Maybe given his stereotypical smarmy liberal demeanor and mannerisms, he wanted to show us all he’s a real man, he’s got a girl??? That’s he was rough and tough enough to go to Washington and fight Trump?

Ossoff reminds me of Pajama Boy and Robby Mook from Hillary’s campaign.

If all of this is true, the best news is that he does not owe anybody any money; good news for the vendors.

And the chances he gets another 30 Million in 2018 are slim and none. The democrats have to spread around the cash to buy new clothes for all of the pajama boy candidates they put up for election.

In the girlfriend department, he sounds like Little Andy and his girlfriend Sandra Lee in NY.

God is most certainly not on the 'Republican' side, as represented by today's fuckups & commutards.

NOT A SINGLE DEMOCRAT WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE INFUSION OF MONEY INTO POLITICS IN THAT GEORGIA ELECTION. NOT ONE.

Paul Ryan raised $20 million for his last race, but kept a lot of it.

“I wonder if any of his new celebrity friends ever call him anymore.”

nope. he’s yesterday’s flavor de jure. no one every called him because they liked him for his sparkling wit or brilliant personality, but solely because he was a warm body that could potentially give the failing Democrats a shot in the arm if he won.

Like they said in “Glengarry Glen Ross”, “First place gets a new Cadillac, second place gets a set of steak knives, and everyone else is fired.”
