President Trump is talking to Senator Ted Cruz and others about what they would do differently as Attorney General, should Jeff Sessions resign, as reports indicate.
White House sources also report President Trump was truthful when he made comments expressing buyers remorse over appointing Jeff Sessions to the role. Trump staffers believe Sessions, Donald Trump Jr, and Rohrabacher aide Paul Behrends were unfairly scapegoated due to the left-wing Russia narrative.
In addition, a replacement for special prosecutor Bob Mueller is being acitvely discussed as the President weighs the decision to fire the Rosenstein-appointed prosecutor. Many within the Trump camp see Mueller as acting in bad faith with the investigation due to partisanship, and are urging the appointment of a truly independent alternative.
Facing criticism as a political witch hunt by many, Bob Mueller has hired a whos who of liberal activists as his team of prosecuting attorneys. Research on Mullers prosecutors is being conducted for the administration by Chuck Johnsons team. Finally, top Trump donors are funding their own research operation independent of the White House in order to push back against the medias fake Russia narrative conspiracy theory.
Sessions would be fine if he appointed 10 pit bull assistants of a consevative bent to clean house at Justice and be the “bad cop”.
Rod RosenKrantz needs to go.
Not a bad job for Cruz...Trump advisor..lawyer
I’m the base and I hate Sessions.
He recused himself.
That gutless move put his President in jeopardy.
He’s doing nothing to help his President.
He hasn’t done sh_t to prosecute real crimes and criminals on the left.
He’s come up with an unconstitutional property seizure plan.
FUJS!!
Cruz is ineligible to be President.
I can't imagine a scenario where Donald Trump fires Mueller. He already has the power to issue a pardon if any criminal charges are filed, and the extreme partisan nature of Mueller's hires will already undermine the credibility of their findings unless they exonerate Trump and his campaign.
I bet there’s time for Sessions to get his old seat back. He can still be helpful in the Senate; he just wasn’t able to play the game the way it needs to be played in DC. He’s too interested in forfeiture and pot.
I certainly hope and this is true because Cruz is proving to be an asset for President Trump on many issues.
Over at Drudge, it says that Bannon is "on the brink" again and not involved in any important meetings. They really need to get control of all these rumors and nonsense that's constantly swirling around.
Everything is ‘being discussed’ LOL!
So: ‘fake news’.
I don’t think they WANT to get control of these rumors. They’re put out there just to muddy the waters while business gets done.
Save it until he runs again.
It would be a disaster of epic proportions is Mueller and his coterie of kangaroos issue an indictment against anyone. Especially if it is Don Jr. or Jared or even against Trump, if he “happens” to find some financial issue he wants to twist. Issuing a pardon at that point is not a good option, and you can bet that every bit of info will be leaked to the press, to keep headlines coming in, day after day, week after week, drip after drip. The whole thing is a an effort to keep Trump in check, not to really investigate any wrongdoing, and the sooner it is stopped, the better.
Why doesn’t Trump complain about Ryan and McConnell not defending him instead of saying that about Sessions to the NYT?
No, I will point it out every time someone suggest an ineligible for President.
Kammala Harris, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, George P. Bush, Bobby Jindal, Nikki Haley are all ineligible.
I don’t see Cruz being a hound dog on illegal immigrants the say Sessions is showing to be.
I think the appointment of Sessions has turned out to be a mistake. He is past his prime and Trump needed a much younger and more aggressive lawyer who didn’t care about the democrat/communist media/entertainment/propaganda complex.
I don’t have a problem with consulting with Cruz. Trump needs to get good advice from different sources on how to proceed here.
If Ted Cruz has an idea, you can trust that it is a pretty politically inept idea.
Right. Bring back John Ashcroft.
Sessions, with Mike Lee, is one of Cruz’ few friends in the US Senate. Cruz was promoting himself for AG early on.
The President would do well to take Cruz’ advice very seriously.
If an indictment is issued, then at least you know the nature of the alleged "crimes." If Mueller is fired and the whole investigation is shut down, then the rest of Trump's life will be marred by rumors and outlandish media reports with allegations of crimes that never happened.
... if he "happens" to find some financial issue he wants to twist.
That would be the grounds to terminate him. His directive under his appointment as special counsel limits him to investigating matters related to the 2016 election. Even if any of the rumors about alleged Russian financial connections to some of Trump's real estate projects years ago are true, the lawyers for Trump's family members have correctly pointed out that the statutes of limitations for any alleged wrongdoing in those matters have long since expired.
