“Dogs and wolves are still the same species today, they can easily interbreed. Overall wolves and dogs are 99.8% genetically identical. Given that they are biologically so similar, is it the way we raise them in our homes that makes a dog? Researchers in Hungary set out to answer this question.”
Answer: epic fail. A wolf puppy cannot be “nurtured” into behaving like a dog, even though they are 99.8% genetically identical.
He never barked, only howled on rare occasions, he lived outside, he would stand in the water, we lived on a lake, when drinking, but never swim and he would leave and wander the neighborhood, miles and miles away for days sometimes.
They would need to do like the Russians did with foxes, and select the most docile wolves from successive generations, and then maybe a few decades down the line they would get a “wolf” that could be domesticated. However, they would also be introducing physical changes through that breeding process and they would basically end up with a dog instead of a wolf.
