Sikkim standoff: Indian soldiers can withdraw, be captured or be killed, says former Chinese diplomat to India

The comments by Liu Youfa, a former Chinese consulate general in Mumbai, come amid a military stand-off between India and China in the Doklam area.

A former Chinese diplomat who recently served in India has said that Indian troops deployed at the disputed Donglang area could either withdraw voluntarily, be captured or be killed.

The comments by Liu Youfa, a former Chinese consulate general in Mumbai, come amid a military stand-off in the Donglang area – also called Doklam – with Beijing blaming Indian soldiers of trespass and preventing Chinese soldiers from building a road in the region, which is also claimed by Bhutan.

“According to what I understand of international law, when people in uniform get across the border to move into the territory of the other side, they naturally become enemies who will have to face three consequences: First, they can go out voluntarily, or they may be captured or when the border dispute should escalate, they may be killed,” Liu told CGTN, the English channel of national broadcaster CCTV.

China conquers Tibet, moves into neighboring Donglang and tells India to get out of their territory. India is gearing up for something - and radioactive fallout is coming our way.

We sure got an interesting time here.

China has been trying the nicey-nice here, even though they weren’t nearly as nice in claiming Tibet, which was necessary in order to get to this ill defined Indian territory.

Maybe the UN will be called in and there will be an armistice line however hotly disputed by both... the most optimistic view. But if India and China get into shooting war, Katy bar the door.

It could be a hot curry load of karma, though only literally God knows how that would play out. These things have ways of breaking out in unpredictable directions. Get all India mad, and suddenly China is looking at hornet’s nest.

The only good thing about a war with China would be a overdue forced end to the disastrous era of off shoring of industry and “Free Trade”. It would force repatriation of production and this stupid experiment in gloBULLism would die quick death.

Pakistan and China are tight, Indians need to watch their left flank.

I prefer to think they will muddle through.

Harsh words, some shooting and spilled blood, summer will pass and nothing will have changed.

I can understand China’s moves in the South China Sea from a strategic perspective.

But activity in Doklam is more puzzling. What do they hope to gain?
