What happens if McCain can't go back to work in the Senate?

Sen. John McCain's office announced Wednesday he has a cancerous brain tumor.

McCain's office is optimistic of his return to his duties, saying "Further consultations with Senator McCain's Mayo Clinic care team will indicate when he will return to the United States Senate."

The tumor, a glioblastoma, is a highly malignant, aggressive, cancerous tumor, according to the American Brain Tumor Association. McCain is 80 years old. He is getting treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation, at the Mayo Clinic.

The Seventeenth Amendment established the rules of appointing vacancies in the Senate. In Arizona, if a senator dies, resigns or is expelled, Gov. Doug Ducey would appoint a replacement of the same political party.

The governor could choose to appoint himself. The person appointed would serve until the next statewide election.

No 85 yr old Senator is a good thing.

Unless he or she was elected at 84.

McCain and Lindsey Graham want this White House to fail as much as 80ish yr old Maxine Waters does. We need to be honest.

OH.. no no no, My friend. Here’s the real story. The conservative legislature that she fought her entire term dropped HB1070 on her desk and it sat there... and it sat there while she threw up the trial balloons. The legislature, using some budget leverage, made her sign it. When she became the darling of the right, not only did she pretend that she was always for it, she never ONCE gave any credit to the author of the bill, Russell Pearce. She was not, and never has been, anything but a very moderate-liberal Republican.

The honorable thing is to step down.

Chuck Schumer would dispatch someone to talk to the family to prevent it.

That’s D.C., folks.

Agree that for the good of all he should resign and spend his remaining time with his family. Sorry to hear about your friend, I also had a good friend pass from glioblastoma in January at only 52. He had survived a bit less than 3 years, which is a long time with this disease. He had spent a long time wearing an experimental device on his head and that was credited with getting him an extra couple of years. At 80 the doctors will likely use the best conventional treatments and he’ll be lucky to survive more than 6 months.

Demorat declarations of sympathy, concern, and good wishes have been effusive. Even Juan Williams exptessed “all our love.”

Teddy Kennedy had the same kind of cancer I believe, and he stayed in his “seat” until he died.

When Songbird dies, the Dems will have his body mummified and it’ll be wheeled in for senate votes

Are we sure the Dems haven't been doing that all along?

We went thru this not long ago , when Senator Dan Inouye died in office . The Governor ( Abercrombie ) had to appoint his replacement . Inouye , on his death bed , asked that Colleen Hanabusa ( currently HI-CD-1 Rep) to replace him . Abercrombie refused and appointed his own rookie Lt. Gov ( Brian Schatz ) who then went on to win a close special election and that’s the knucklehead we have to this day . Inouye’s ghost , and the entirely pee’d off Hawaii Democrat ‘old boy’ crowd had their revenge a year later when they were able to get a nobody to ‘primary’ Abercrombie out of office . Something that had never happened to an incumbent Hawaii Gov before . Abercrombie is gone and we now Senator Knucklehead and Governor Nobody . Both of whom avidly support the challenges to the travel ban of people from terrorist countries

I will tell you truly: I’m at an age where I seriously consider the next world. As a Christian I take serious note of the words of the prayer that Christ gave us: “...forgive me my offenses as I forgive those who offend me.”

I don’t like McCain’s ethics or politics, but I will never, ever, wish ill on anyone. I really believe in a God of justice as well as forgiveness.

I agree with entirely.

But I don’t loathe McCain because of any offense he did to me. So I can’t forgive him. We can only forgive those who have offended us.

The problem with McCain is he is a traitor who has done tremendous harm not just to our country but to other countries as well.

He has done great evil. I want him NOT to go back to the Senate.

I also hope he begs forgiveness from God and leaves the world right with God.

Very doubtful McCain will see the floor of the Senate again. Glioblastoma is an especially aggressive form of cancer, and the prognosis for anyone diagnosed with the disease is quite grim.

Twenty years ago, many patients were lucky to survive six months; now individuals afflicted with glioblastoma last an average of 16 months, and it is a cruel fate. Not only is the chemotherapy debilitating and toxic, the cancer can also produce terrible side effects including seizures.

My best friend from my Air Force days succumbed to the disease in 2015; he lived almost five years with glioblastoma, but he was a man of tremendous faith and courage, and he was in exceptional physical condition. It wasn’t unusual for him to return from a chemo session at the hospital and go to the base gym for a two-hour workout. He fought an exceptionally brave battle but in the end, the cancer claimed another victim.

Glioblastoma is one of those terrible diseases that receives little attention and (comparatively) little research funding. Perhaps the most promising treatment currently available was developed at Duke; researchers re-engineered the polio virus to attack aggressive cancers and (in some patients) it has achieved impressive results against glio. I have little regard for John McCain politically, but I don’t wish that horrible disease on anyone, and (hopefully) he will have access to the Duke program.

“What happens if McCain can’t go back to work in the Senate?”

Well, I will head to a beach and sit on a log. I’ll sip brandy and eat a piece of fresh homemade apple pie as I listen to the crashing of the waves and songs of seabirds, as I gaze with delight at a beautiful sunset.

I know what will happen if he does go back to work... The Rino will roll up his sleeves and go back to work helping the democrat party beat conservatives and do all he can to help them destroy Trump’s presidency.

Thanks for nothing John McCain.... Truly for nothing.
