Why cant Republicans in Congress pass health-care reform? This is the question to ask after the Republican Senate leaderships plan was stabbed to death by conservative Senate Republicans.
The answer is shockingly simple: Republican voters do not actually want health-care reform and these elected officials are just doing the bidding of their constituents.
Those voters could have been led to support the Republican efforts on Capitol Hill by a new president who carefully and conscientiously laid out the fatal problems of ObamaCare and how a new plan would fix what was broken and even create a new path to Americas long-term fiscal health.
Republican policy wonks have been designing plans to do just that from the moment ObamaCare became law in 2010. Both the House bill that passed in June and the Senate bill that just died are chock-full of sensible policy fixes.
But wonky policy has to be sold. People have to be told why what happens next will be better than what is happening now. When the Congressional Budget Office offers an analysis of the bill that makes it look bad, someone has to stand up and explain why the CBO is wrong and what its missing.
Most important, leaders have to explain to their constituents why certain types of hard choices were made so that the constituents who want to support the bill because its the bill that was devised by their team can make the right arguments for it.
But we dont live on an alternate earth, one in which almost any other 2016 Republican candidate for president was elected. We live on this earth, and on Monday, the day that the health-care bill died, the new president was literally playing around in a firetruck on the White House lawn.

Podhoretz is a putz, a damned elitist, # NEVERTRUMPER, and has excrement for brains!
The Poor Man’s Bill Kristol.
so there you go.....the libs wanted this and now they get to keep there crap....
Obama and the rats are fully to blame for what is health care in this country.
Personally, If I were a member of Congress or a Senator I would have voted no on all of those bills also. Anything in my opinion that doesn’t include competition across state lines is worthless, for example, and none of the bills introduced allowed that. But none of that matters when you just want to do a repeal, which was passed when they knew it wouldn’t happen. Yet #NeverTrumper Butthoertz still finds a way to make it Trump’s fault.
I might point out that for eight years, the GOP talked about this great solution or replacement idea for health-care. Well...where is it? It’s not Trump’s fault, but the bulk of the GOP Senators are hopelessly lost and unable to resolve the problem. I think the epic failure here....if there is one...is that some Senators need to be sent back home and replaced.
So we now know with absolute certainty just why democrats sent obamacare to the president in 2010 without even knowing what was in the bill. They knew while pretending to not know? That is until they demanded waivers for themselves.
Friday July 22, 2017 should be the plan start date for all federal government employees rolled into Obamacare. Tweet it out Mr.President.
Oh now THAT is funny and very true! LOL
It needs to be repealed, or just allowed to die a very painful death.
The Putzhoretz is beyond disgusting and lower than pond scum.
I don’t blame Trump at all for this.
The GOP gets 100% of the blame.
They are doing this on purpose. They are liars. They are the Swamp.
The GOP has to go.
So what would be the non-fatal parts of ObamaCare?
The only thing I can think of is the keeping your kid on your employee health plan until they are 26. (I dont support it so you dont have to flame me)
Its a problem but I dont think it is fatal. But why keep a huge monstrosity of a government wealth redistribution program that is also a Liberal social engineering program.
There is nothing in ObamaCare worth saving and anything less than total repeal is cowardice on the part of Republicans and playing politics on the part of Democrats.
Both sides know the program is a total failure. The Democrats can not give up their victory of socialized medicine after 75 years of trying. The Democrats also know that admitting ObamaCare is a failure would be a big defeat to overcome.
The Republicans simply do not want to be the Bad Guy who took some widows healthcare insurance away.
Current rates cost 70% more than our pre-ACA costs. And we lost our doctors, pediatricians, local clinics, local labs, and preferred hospital.
Regulated health care is crap — much like Podhoretz’ purview on the matter.
You can’t unite people who refuse to be united.
Even Moses had to destroy a Golden calf and crack a few heads to get the Hebrews following the right path.
O’care was designed to collapse on itself anyway. Let it and then start repairing... Thanks alot Obama, you moron.
John is wrong. Trump is willing to work with all Rs.
the fact that congress put forth one steaming pile after another has nothing to do with it i guess.
John, the Republicans have been touting the repeal of ACA years before Trump even announced his candidacy to run for President. They own Congress & the White House, so the failure squarely lies on the Republican legislators. Apparently touting a narrative is easy when you know that even when you passed a repeal piece of legislation that it would be vetoed by Obama.
One can’t unite by selling out to kstreet. Unite would equate to selling out we the people.
