Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Thomas Homan said Tuesday that he plans on sending hundreds of agents to sanctuary cities in the near future as part of a major crackdown on illegal immigrants.
Homan told the Washington Examiner Tuesday that he plans to address "ludicrous" sanctuary cities.
"In the America I grew up in, cities didn't shield people who violated the law," Homan told the publication. What I want to get is a clear understanding from everybody, from the congressmen to the politicians to law enforcement to those who enter the country illegally, that ICE is open for business."
According to The Examiner, Homan said he plans on sending hundreds of agents to those cities.
"Were going to enforce the laws on the books without apology, well continue to prioritize what we do, Homan continued. But its not OK to violate the laws of this country anymore, youre going to be held accountable.
During his interview with the Examiner, Homan also praised the Trump administration, saying it has "taken the handcuffs off law enforcement," allowing them to address immigration more thoroughly.
"You can like President Trump, not like him, like his policies, not like his policies, but one thing no one can argue with is the effect they've had," said Homan.
According to Homan, illegal border crossings have decreased by 70 percent under Trump and arrests inside the country have increased by 40 percent.
The 30-year immigration agency veteran also said that he has gotten a green light to hire 10,000 new immigration agents, who will work to arrest illegal criminals sheltered in sanctuary cities.
Sanctuary cities are jurisdictions with policies limiting cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration agents and include cities such as New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Austin.
President Trump campaigned on cracking down on illegal immigration and stepping up border security.
Following his inauguration, many cities started declaring that they would protect illegal immigrants, sparking the debate over sanctuary cities.
This could actually be very effective. By sending ICE into the strongholds of illegal alien sanctuaries, you really rip apart the whole sanctuary city policy. Sort of the opposite of gun free zones. If illegal aliens reside in a sanctuary city, they are more likely to be deported under this policy. Unless the sanctuary cities send their police to war with ICE, this will gut the whole sanctuary city movement more effectively than withholding Federal funds (although I like that idea, too.)
I hear you and couldn’t agree more.
Many Democrats of old had the well being of our country at heart, sadly no more.
My thought also, he's the type that should be running ICE.
That’s because Obama even counted the ones that had been turned away at the border as deportations. That way his numbers looked good while they were deporting no one.
if they can deport 10,000 illegals it will more than make up for their salaries in wasted taxpayer dollars over the longrun
Popcorn and many pics I hope. Oh and some champagne too.
Logically, this could thwart a lot of the Sanctuary City misbehavior.
When they get to the sanctuary city, they should give an interview and say that, since the city will not detain illegal criminals when requested, they will have to chase them; and they will detain and deport ANY illegal they find during the chase.
Excellent!
Who returned the next week after the it taxpayer - paid vacay! What a crock.
Please come to Los Angeles soon, thank you.
This is terrible news. I don’t want hundreds of ICE agents in my state. I want to see thousands of them with transportation ready to remove the illegals. I’ll help drive the buses if they need volunteers. Stop playing tiddlywinks with Leahy and Sanders and get the illegal farm workers and their toadies at MIGRANT JUSTICE out of MY STATE.
You forgot the Ex-Lax burritos....all you can eat.
Ok, so do it already and give them orders to deport.
...........and Austin!
#Winning.
100’s of Ice agents to sanctuary cities might increase the deportation rate up to 1000 a day but I doubt it. Maybe half that many.
However with illegals in the country accounted for at 12 million —this won’t make much of a difference. though it will embarrass sanctuary cities— which is a good thing.
I would rather see many thousands of ice agents sent to sanctuary cities. that would make a meaningful difference
Trump we will not be upset at all if u wanna grab some DACA commies to keep the murderers and gang bangers company
Some things are getting done..I welcome the efforts of the prez
Today’s Democrats are the same as mussie scum.
