Well at least looked at with pity or disdain. Not outright hate as if you were a Trump supporter or something. LOL! Well, even though I must admit I still want one, I'm in week sixteen of stopping. I promised Mrs. rktman I would quit for her birthday which was 4/4 and that was when I had my last one. I've done all the "trigger" things too. Going to the casino, going to jam session with my fellow pickers at local bars and I've managed to hang in. Additional health care costs? I suppose actuary tables show that. For me? Not so much. Yet anyway.

Majority of US Smokers Feel Discriminated Against, Poll Says

Secondhand smoke is a killer and wreaks havoc on the health of innocent bystanders, so YES, they are discriminated against and they deserve it!

Quit 21 years ago, still crave one. If a comet were on the way or the doc said I had only a short time to live regardless the first thing I’d do is go get a carton of Viceroys.

I don’t blame smokers; however the tobacco industry knowingly selling something both addictive and harmful legally when other substances will get you in prison for even possession is inconsistent.

Ah the joys of discipline .....

Your trigger testing didn’t mention drinking shots and doing some coke nor how much ice cream you’re consuming now.

More than half of smokers in the United States believe they are discriminated against ...

In general, it is not the smoker himself who is "discriminated against," but the behavior of smoking. A smoker may go into a restaurant and eat a meal, just as a nonsmoker may. He just may not smoke while he's there, any more than the nonsmoker may light an incense burner.

There's an interesting suggestion here that "smoker" is a kind of comprehensive identity, independent of the action, just as "gay" is a comprehensive identity.

Hang in there. I smoked for 20 years and quit one morning 13 years ago. Five years later, doctor told me it was likely my lungs had recovered to where they would be if I never had started.

Looking at prices of the things today...I have better things to spend money on.

When I was still smoking, I was a very courteous smoker (at least in my opinion). I remember once I was outside having a smoke at the farthest point of the sidewalk away from the entrance of a restaurant. The parking lot was half full, at best with several parking places available by the entrance, and this little old lady drives through the whole parking lot to park right next to where I'm standing, gets out of car, waving her hand in front of her face to clear the VOLUMES of secondhand smoke I was apparently putting out and blowing directly in her face, and courteously offering that "I really should quit".

I'm 40 feet from the front entrance of this place, standing next to the trash dumpster in 40 degree weather, and you've GOT to go out of your way to insult me.....please.

That’s wonderful my FRiend!
I hope you beat the habit for good :-)

And yes, smokers are discriminated against!

I’m anti-smoking but it’s all been carried way too far IMO.

I hated air travel when the cabin was full of smoke, and it was a relief when smoking was banned in planes. But imagine how hard it is for heavy smokers to go so long without a cigarette...surely something could be done like a small smoking cabin with separate ventilation.

They won’t even allow smoking on flights set aside for smokers only....I just don’t see why that is not allowed as long as the crew are all smokers as well. WHY NOT ALLOW THIS!?

They won’t allow smokers only bars or restaurants...why the F not?

Honestly I’d be happier if things went back to the way they were in the 60s .... I’d rather wheeze a bit than live in this crazy over-regulated world the leftists have made.

Smoking is now a big thing among the poorer uneducated minority classes and individuals.

Cool people; happy, rich successful people do not smoke.

Good for you. I dumped the smokes and went with a vape to ween off the nicotine. It’s a powerful addiction to be sure. Every now and then, I still reach for my shirt pocket for a smoke and my lighter, so that’s where I keep my vape pen.

The anti-smoking NAZIS still complain though about vaping. Those are the same ones who chew and wouldn’t think twice about boozin’ and cruisin’.

But that’s okay, to each their own I guess.

I just don’t go to their bars, clubs, or restaurants anymore.

You give yourself preexisting conditions and spray toxic emissions on me fecklessly which makes you ill allows the left to use you as a political tool and costs me more in premiums and taxes and you want my support?

Research from Gallup shows adults who smoke accumulate $2,132 more in health care costs per year than non-smokers, which totals to $92 billion more in healthcare costs nationwide. The financial consequences of smoking regularly, along with negative health effects from secondhand smoke, are both possible reasons to the perceived stigma.

The solution is higher taxes. Divide this 92 billion bucks into the actual packages of cigarettes sold and collect it from the morons who are costing us these many billions of wasted dollars.

This says there are 258 billion cigarettes sold each year. That's 12.9 billion packs. I'm too lazy to do the math. But if we tax the 92 billion dollars in extra health care costs into each pack sold, that would be fair and equitable.

“Discriminate” is not a dirty word. You do it when you buy a car or a house. You do it when you pick a mate, or a restaurant.

I discriminate against all sorts of people based on their attributes. We all do. And you bet I discriminate “against” smokers. I discriminate against alcoholics. I discriminate against anyone who carries with them attributes that could do harm to those for which I am responsible. So sue me.

I quit in 1976 after smoking for 14 years. I hate smoking. I back smokers though. Go ahead. I Only frequent ‘smoking allowed’ places with good air scrubbers.

It’s a cash cow for politicians. They put huge tariffs on a legal substance. If they really think its that bad, ....have it banned. They won’t.

Much as I love my smoking pals and friends, I don’t want to breathe that garbage. That’s my choice. Remember, having a smoking section in a bar or restaurant is no different than having a “peeing section” in a swimming pool.
