This is breaking on McConnel's twitter feed. Statement to abandon repeal/replace for a straight repeal with a 2 year delay to replace.
(Excerpt) Read more at twitter.com ...
He puts this out on twitter, but will he put it on the floor of the Senate?
No he can't. He could influence a vote in either caucus if they weren't as hostile to him as the democrats are.
Is that true? I did not realize the president can remove the leaders in the Senate and House. If that were true, I’m wondering why it hasn’t been done already.
“The key is not just holding, but GAINING seats.”
What kind of sick fool wants to see Republicans with more seats?
“He can replace the leaders in the House and Senate.”
You need to go back to school.
WE don’t have a majority in either house. The Republicans do. And they are mostly uniparty swamp dwelling statist elites who look down their noses on us when they even bother to give us a thought...except for a month or two every two or six years.
—
Exactly. I’m a member of the Trump party (for lack of a better name). Screw the Republicans and screw the Democrats even more. They’re all worse than useless.
Two years of sunset, as well?
What kind of sick fool wants to see Republicans with more seats?
Well, gee, Mariner....I guess I am that sick fool...who would rather see Repubs gain seats from DEMOCRATS, and keep/insure majority.
What kind of sick fool wants Dimms to GAIN seats? If you like your socialized healthcare, you can go straight to single payer healthcare.
I’m willing to fight that your wish does NOT come true.
First, the GOP must die.
Everything else comes after that.
I am willing to unelect a Republican by whatever means is necessary.
This is fantasy. They will go down to the very last second possible. The last half of a second even.
Wonderful! This is what I have been wanting since 2008. Get govt out of health care, privatize it all.
Let the market figure it out- the “invisible hand” vice the ignorant and selfish hand of govt.
Socialized/entitlement health care is no health care at all, but rather rationed and non-physician proscribed programming- ask Charlie Gard....
We will always have the “poor” ( whether financially morally or motivation wise) with us- so says Jesus.
Natural Law grants the right to life liberty and pursuit of happiness, not the end of all our wants needs and desires.
“Except a repeal will not pass.”
True. It appears nothing will pass.
I still think it’s great that McConnel is proposing a straight repeal because it provides real leadership and political cover for conservatives facing reelection after ACA implodes.
There is no question that liberals will blame Republicans no matter what happens or does not happen with ACA - that is a foregone conclusion - no republicans should be courting liberal or MSM approval - they will never get it.
The only people Republicans should be courting the aporoval of are limitted government conservatives who helped get Trump elected. These people will consider any effort to do anything but a 100% straight Obamacare repeal as a violation of the spirit of a Trump campaign pledge.
If Republicans are smart, they’ll follow the lead of Rand Paul, Trump and now McConnell - promote the idea of “repeal now, replace later (never)” then move immediately the tax cuts.
See H.R.3762 - 114th Congress - Reconcilliation, vetoed by Obama January 8, 2016, for the pattern.
I’d love for it to be replaced by a singer payer. They’d run out of money immediately. I just don’t want it to be replaced by single payer.
All ANYONE wanted was a repeal. Nobody cared if government replaced it.
Ironically, I think this signals that McConnell has had enough. He promised to repeal it, so he’ll repeal it. Then he’ll announce that he’s not running for re-election and the healthcare issue will be someone else’s albatross.
“Smart move. If Collins and Rand Paul vote no they will be outed as Obama moles.”
Collins and Paul both voted “no”, but for opposite reasons. Collins because she is a RINO and Rand Paul because he is a constitutional conservative.
Rand Paul would never vote against a straight repeal - he’s the one that’s been leading the way on this!
He’s been voting “no” on RyanCare precisely BECAUSE it hasn’t been a straight repeal.
Yes, Collins is an Obama mole but she was outed a long, long time ago.
Rand Paul deserves a ton of credit - he’s been talking to Trump regularly to convince him to drop the “replace” part of “repeal and replace”.
He’s probably the one that convinced McConnell to go on record.
Rand Paul does not deserve the dishonor of being lumped in with RINO Susan Collins.
