You might well be right, but your comment makes me feel like I’m living in the USSR. Citizens figured out what was really going on by what/who was not in Pravda rather than what was in it.

Yep, you certainly won't know what's going on by just reading or listening to the MSM these days. I look in the comment section following an article to find the actual truth. Like the kid shouting "The Emperor has no clothes" the truth will stand out among the lies due to its obvious and simple explanation of the facts without any attempt at obfuscation.

And when the comment section is closed I tend to believe the entire article is a lie.

Go back to the news releases about Teddy Kennedy's final illness. It was exactly the same way. One of the first articles, from the NYT, appeared to be inconclusively optimistic except for a link to a medical article that gave the full story about his type of terminal cancer. AP articles at that time about the same matter all appeared optimistic, except for the crucial omission of details that would tell the truth.
