Dershowitz on Trump Jr Meeting: ‘A Candidate Has the Right to Get Information From Whatever Source’
Breitbart ^ | 16 Jul 2017 | Trent Baker

Saturday on Fox News Channel’s “Justice,” Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz defended President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., for meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya to do opposition research.

According to Dershowitz, there is nothing wrong with a candidate getting information on his opponent from any type of source.

“If it were to be prosecuted, the First Amendment would trump. A candidate has the right to get information from whatever source the information comes,” he argued.

There was nothing illegal about the Trump Jr. meeting.

As a matter of fact the meeting is in itself proof there was no collusion between Trump and Russia.

If the Trump campaign were already working with Putin, they would have never agreed to this strange meeting with an unknown Russian lawyer arranged by a small time entertainment agent.

Trump should hire Dershowitz.

As some legal expert on Fox was saying, this entire thing about “collusion” is one huge scam. In fact the only mention of collusion being a crime in the Federal Legal Code is in reference to monopolist behavior between two corporations. And as Dershowitz stated, you, me or Donald Trump Jr. can meet with whoever the hell we want, American, Russian or whatever and talk about whatever we darn well please.

Federal law prohibits U.S. election campaigns from accepting money or "anything of value" from foreign sources. The U.S. Supreme Court has held -- on First Amendment grounds -- that this prohibition cannot be used to prohibit foreigners from working for U.S. election campaigns. The only constraint is that they cannot be paid for their work, and must be volunteers by any objective measure.

Perhaps the easiest way for Donald Trump Jr. to steer clear of any legal trouble is if he simply says that he met with this Russian lawyer because he thought she was volunteering to work for the Trump campaign!

A combination of the Democratic Party’s insane bending of the law with their rising anti-Semitic sentiments might eventually drive Alan Dershowitz into the Libertarian or even Republican Party. Stranger things have happened.

Anyway, I note he’s been on FOX a lot lately, because CNN and MSNBC don’t want to publicize what he’s been saying about the current anti-Trump hysteria.

This was mentioned on another thread, and it’s worth repeating here. Suppose in mid-2016 some foreign national had contacted Chelsea Clinton and said “I’ve got some dirt on how Trump misbehaved during the Miss Universe pageant.”

Would Chelsea have followed up on that? You betcha. And would the media have been okay with that? You betcha.

What about the “pu**y” tape Hillary used against Trump during the campaign? I’d think that would be much more questionable — a tape recording of a private citizen that was obtained without the citizen’s knowledge. She had no trouble accepting that (possibly/probably illegal) tape when it was offered to her.

It would be funny to have Dershowitz on as part of a panel that included Krauthammer.... sheesh the guy has been insufferable and out in loonytunes land lately.

Madam, surely you jest (hehehehe) Hillary Clinton is allowed, nay, granted freedom to do what other's by law are not allowed to do...Hillary is backed by some very powerful people here and broad...now why do you suppose that is. She has spent nearly a life time finding and using all tools in her closet where many skeletons are stored until they are needed. I suspect the Clinton's even had the goods on the Obamas...Why did Hillary pick Kane to be her running mate? That sleazy politician is in lock step with the Clinton style corruption....all this will come out if the left and Muller continue to find trumped up charges where there are no crimes and wasting time and money on illusory claims against the Trump family, a class act representing America.

Funny how that NEVER applied to Obama-—

He was getting money from GAZA for his campaigns-—and other Middle Eastern sources.

NO ONE ever prosecuted Obama for such activity.

Another double standard from the Democrats & the media.

IF they didn’t have their DOUBLE standards, they wouldn’t have ANY standards at all.
