A new report in the Los Angeles Daily News details the many dangers that California’s record-low birthrate holds for a state where there is constant political pressure to expand welfare spending, and where the cost of living continues to outpace inflation.
The Daily News‘ Ian Wheeler writes:
The pace of motherhood in California is slowing and its members are aging, a shift demographers expect to continue and contribute to far-reaching and uncertain changes in the decades to come.
Births still more than replace deaths — factoring in immigration and longer lifespans, the four-county region is estimated to add 2.7 million people over the next two decades. But demographers warn the changing birth rate and population patterns may lead to a smaller workforce that will have to support more retirees, straining pension and health care systems.
The causes of the declining birth rates and delays in childbearing are both economic and a result of changing societal roles for women, who have more career and educational opportunities than in the past. Southern California’s cost of living also continues to outpace wages, and owning or renting a house to start a family now often requires two household earners.

This is one problem that is made worse by immigration. Just leave it alone the demographics will correct themselves.
Oh yeah, reconstruction was sooo good for the South.
Plus, the obscene number of taxes and fees and the high cost of living make it hard for people to have a lot of kids.
Most likely, the only people giving birth are cradle to grave welfare recipients.
I guess the politicians in California will be left having to use their own pay since they chased out the working folks with taxes and regs.

A lot of the productive people in CA are leaving the state, thus reducing the tax pool.
Sadly, they are metastasizing their left-wingery to their new homes.
That’s why the left needs to import more illegals
1) it helps dilute and attack “traditional culture” which is a natural political enemy of the Left
2) new customers of the nanny-state
3) a new, dependent and reliable political bloc
Quiet, you’ll awaken the drug-addled Blacks and Hispanics here. Procreating is the one thing that they are really good at. Maybe we can offer their “menfolk” free TV’s and beer to keep their “minds” on “other things!” Or “free” birth control pills for their women, because the men don’t know how to use condoms. They isn’t “manly” doncha know?

You speak the truth! Bankruptcy can’t come soon enough, and it needs to really hurt the “bum class” here!
Interesting, California is singled out yet other parts of the nation experience the same. We’re all in this together, we fall together as one.
If we didn’t have millions of illegals in California, a lot of public schools would be closing. Many school systems in California are laying off teachers and non teachers as the number of children in public schools are falling like rocks.
The only “new” younger people, who can afford to move to maybe stay in California are the illegals, who are untaxed and on all types of welfare and free healthcare.
When one bedroom apartments in the Gay Frisco area are renting for $2500 and up per month, with a deposit of two months rent and a net salary of 2 to 3 X the monthly rental for legals, they can not afford to live here. Small 2 and 3 bedroom homes are renting for 4-6 K per month.
So, non welfare California couples with children are faced with Obama Care costs, high income taxes, high sales taxes and maybe the most expensive gasoline prices in the country. Many are moving to other states like Texas to survive. economically.
Developed world de-emphasizes importance of family, reveres materialistic pleasure, worships the state and celebrity.
The high taxes needed for maintaining a welfare state results in not enough available income for citizens to start and raise a family.
Traditional population of US, EU, Japan is screwed demographicly.

You ha e it backwards; low birthrate leads to immigration. If the birth rate keeps declining, immigration will increase.
