The Senate will defer consideration of the GOP healthcare plan that would partially repeal and replace Obamacare until Sen. John McCain returns to work following a procedure to remove a blood clot from above his left eye, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement late Saturday.
After wishing him a "speedy recovery," McConnell, R-Ky., added: "While John is recovering, the Senate will continue our work on legislative items and nominations, and will defer consideration of the Better Care Act."
About two hours earlier McCain's office revealed that he would be spending a week in his home state of Arizona recovering from the procedure he got on Friday.
Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix said the 80-year-old is now "resting comfortably at home and is in good condition," after a successful surgery.

That isn’t a bloodclot... it’s his brain.
McCain should recover well, but he is probably not going to retire. He’ll be there until 2028.
Regan got screwed on immigration, but he got the tax cuts that drove the economic growth in the 1980's and early 1990's. Half a loaf, as you said.
I don't particularly like it, but this is the reality: there are noy, nor will there ever be, 51 solidly conservative senators in office at the same time while we are alive. There will always be a Lisa Murkowski, a Susan Collins, or a John McCain fouling up the grand conservative plan. You can cheer for ideological purity or nothing, or you can focus on the real of the possible and root for the conservatives to play it as shrewdly as they can.
It's only a matter of time before establishment democrats realize identity politics is a losing game and join up with establishment Republicans to form a "centrist" party of ever expanding government without the sharp edges and controversial positions. Luckily for us, the democrats are still stuck on purity regarding abortion.
If you are rooting for an Article V convention of the states, or aimed revolution to fix everything, that's one thing. I'm not,
They cannot let the racket go.
They work for lobbyists, not us.
Play Ball!
McCain is one of more than a dozen Republicans who are not committed to voting for the bill. His absence gives McConnell the excuse to spend some more time trying to persuade others to vote yes or work out compromises that might gain Dem votes without loosing too many Rep votes. The link below shows who is uncommitted and factors affecting their views.

Do you honestly think there is a snowball's chance of that happening?
Reading about old Senators who have been glued to their seats for 30+ years makes me think that it’s time to overturn the 17th Amendment to the Constitution, and give the state legislatures back the duty to appoint their Senators.
Then again, I’m also hoping that pigs will fly, unicorns will emerge from their hiding places in Atlantis, and Michael Moore will do his best “Mr. Creosote” imitation.
Does this mean until after the already delayed summer recess?
Just so he can vote “no?”
I read that this "blood clot" was actually a tumor pressing on the frontal lobe. Now Idiot Joe Biden gets around (barely) with a chunk of his brain removed - and it shows - but I'm not quite sure Juan McLame can. This could be GOD's way of stressing TERM LIMITS!
As Rush said, the republicans don’t want to gut obamacare. they are too busy bowing to the special interest..
Trump does not cater to those lobbyists!
what will end up happening .. those who can afford it will find doctors who will see them for cash and cash will be the deciding factor in health care.
According to medical news report he had about a 2 inch mass in his brain near his eye that they had to remove. Speculation that it was affecting his mental clarity. I wonder how much health care lobbying he got from people in or working at the hospital.

Yeah, great. Tax cuts, that lasted HOW many years (before govt grew enough to claw-back, PLUS some) vs. the criminal alien invasion that has continued unabated for 40+ yrs.
Forgive me if I don’t see an upside here.

Concur. Especially since a party allows those diametrically opposed to their platform/policies to run under their banner (all in the name of having more tics in the ‘gaining/keeping a seat’ box). And/or an electorate too willfully blind and ignorant to see that is (most) always more than 2 names in any bracket.
Choosing, based on XYZ (party plantation living, recognition, vaporware, etc.), between cow-s* and horse-s* equals still ending up with S*.
I sure as hell wouldn’t trust anyone

You can’t even talk about ‘possibilities’, let alone purity, when 1/2 of your own party will willfully stab you in the back.
I’m not so naive to believe GOVT\career politicians will solve the problems of GOVT. Govt doesn’t *solve* anything.

Matter of time? Suggest you open your eyes. If the 6+ yrs of promises didn’t, I’m not sure what else will.

Luckily, how? Did PP get de-funded? Prosecuted for selling baby parts? Have the (R) removed taxpayer funding of abortions from ANYTHING taxpayer provided?? The Socialists/(D) [I repeat myself] have gotten *everything* they’ve wanted (and more. Single payer will be here soon). Not sure how much more ‘lucky’ they need be.

In my lifetime? No, the NFL is still on and people have the illusion of freedom. Too few that WOULD pick up arms today to make much of a difference (neighbors and the like more than willing to turn ‘em in....gotta keep those taxpayer checks coming). When the 49.9% HURT, and hurt BAD, maybe.
If States haven’t risen up to take back what is/was rightfully theirs\Ours (see: Oligarchy), I don’t see enough getting together to ‘fix’ anything, w/o making things worse (IMO, anyone thinking they’ll stay ‘on track’ in an ArtV is daft. Fed doesn’t heed the Const., States don’t heed the Const. but they’ll did it THEN?? Ha).
Good chat though. Times like this I thank the stars I’ve never had children.
