Co-founder of firm behind Trump-Russia dossier won’t testify before Senate
The Hill ^

Posted on 07/13/2017 7:16:41 PM PDT by TigerClaws

Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson won't testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week, despite a request for voluntary testimony from the committee.

Simpson co-founded the political intelligence firm Fusion GPS in 2009. During the 2016 campaign, the firm hired former British spy Christopher Steele, who produced a now-infamous dossier alleging Russian intelligence's influence over President Trump.

The Senate Judiciary Committee said yesterday that Simpson would testify next week. The chair of the committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent a letter asking for information about the dossier to Fusion GPS in March, and in June threatened to subpoena Simpson if he did not comply with the request for voluntary testimony.

Grassley rejected claims from Simpson's lawyer in June that responding to the committee's request would violate Simpson's First Amendment rights.

"Your attorney has failed to sufficiently explain your claims that responding to the Committee’s requests would infringe upon or violate your and/or Fusion’s First Amendment rights, attorney-client and attorney work product privileges, and confidentiality agreements," Grassley wrote in a letter released in June.

"Based on the minimal and vague explanations your attorney has provided, the Committee cannot adequately assess your claims. Thus, we must presume that they are unfounded."

Grassley's main questions for Simpson involve who hired Fusion GPS to produce opposition research against Trump, and whether the firm shared the document with the FBI.

"When political opposition research becomes the basis for law enforcement or intelligence efforts, it raises substantial questions about the independence of law enforcement and intelligence from politics," Grassley wrote in March.

In June, Grassley warned Simpson that if he didn't "comply voluntarily" with the committee's request, senators "will begin consideration of compulsory process under its rules."

Spokespeople for Grassley and ranking Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) didn't respond to Politico's request for comment on whether they would begin the subpoena process.

McCain brought the dossier to the U.S. Daily Mail had a story on that today - he sent his most trusted assistant to get the dossier. McCain turned the dossier over to Comey. Did money change hands? Possibly. I’ve heard Fusion wanted $50,000 for the dossier.

I don’t believe Putin had anything to do with it.

Early in September 2015 it was reported that a Jeb Bush Super PAC donor paid for it. Later I heard a Hillary backer paid them.

The whole thing is nothing but nonsense. Who ever was stupid enough to pay for it got took. Just like Dan Rather and Bill Burkett. (I worked at same company with Bill once)

We need to find out who funded it from FUSION GPS. They also have Planned Parenthood as a client:

Why was Veslenitskaya in that Congressional hearing? She does not understand English.

It’s not by chance that she is seated beside Obama’s ambassador to Russia.

All part of attempts to fulfill the same contract?

Thought; honey had something else in mind until she realized JR had witnesses. She may not have known who Jared and Steve were and suspected LEO so decided instead of blackmailing Or others and used the same tried and true adoption ruse

Someone on Fox, earlier, said those seats - directly behind person testifying - are usually reserved for assistants, etc., to hand notes.

What the heck is she doing in the note passing/assistant seat?

Yes but there is no need for the first part of the process, there may even be a legal problem because I don’t think a “request” creates an obligation to preserve documents. A subpoena does. Maybe I’m mistaken and they tell them to preserve records I sort of doubt it.

Recall the DNC hack claims...

DNC claims their e-mail system was hacked, that their oppo research was stolen, that Russians did it, and it was to help Trump.

This makes no sense.

Stipulating that their system was breached by Russia, that the DNC somehow knows that only the oppo research was copied - not deleted - how would that help Trump?

If their system was breached by Russia to benefit Trump it would make more sense to either delete or corrupt the oppo research. The only value would be knowing what they know about you. Far more valuable would be knowing about them, getting the dope on them. That was not copied from DNC, only the oppo research.

The claim doesn’t add up. It joins the McCain dossier and DTjr setup as part of a smear campaign, the only difference is Crowdstrike is not tied with Fusion - although they are both tied with the DNC. ye-ah. nothing to see here.
