A deal Poland is expected to sign with the United States to buy the Patriot missile system includes interceptor missiles from Israel's David Sling system.

The deal with US firm Raytheon, worth up to $7.6 billion, will see Poland buy eight Patriot missile defense systems by the end of the year.

Poland's Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz announced the deal on Thursday morning, during US President Donald Trump's visit to Warsaw.

"A memorandum was signed tonight that the US government has agreed to sell Poland Patriot missiles in the most modern configuration," Macierewicz said in a news conference broadcast on public television on Thursday morning.

The deal is expected to be finalized in November of this year.

Poland demanded the Israeli interceptor missile, which was developed with Raytheon and is marketed in the world under the name "SkyCeptor," because of its better performance compared to the American Patriot interceptor and its considerably lower price, which stands at only 10 percent of the price of the American counterpart—$450,000 compar

It sounds like the US should buy the missiles from Israel too.

No they shouldn’t

Instead the US need to fix a broken procurement system.

President Trump’s the man to get that into gear.

Poland and other Visegrad Group countries will be talking more about that and other matters with Israel, which is being invited later this month to participate in the group’s summit for the first time.

It is not just a procurement system issue. They said the Israeli interceptor has better performance. I have worked with the Israelis. They have some smart people over there.

I know Trump is a master negotiator, but I doubt very much if he could make the US version competitive if it’s 10X the cost of the Israeli hardware. If he could make that happen, I’d suggest that it’s a whole lot more than the broken procurement system that’s at fault. More like wholesale bribery and kick backs. Someone needs to explain the cost variance immediately.

Or, like many other weapons systems bought by the US military, have it made in the US either directly by the designing company or under license. The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon is made in the USA - but it’s a license built copy of the Belgian FN Herstal-made MINIMI light machine gun. The M1A1 and later Abrams tanks use a US-built slightly-modified licensed copy of the German Rhinemetall 120mm L/44 cannon. The Army’s new UH-72 is actually the Airbus EC145 made in America. The Stryker is based on a Swiss APC. The new service pistol is to be a Sig P320 produced in America.

Yay! Another reversal of Obama’s disatrous foreign policies. One of PBo’s first decisions was to reverse the sale of missile defense systems to Poland.

Now PDJT has corrected that error in judgement by his predecessor. Actually I am being kind to PBO, as I think it was more of a deliberate act on his part rather than an error.
