White House mistakenly calls China, not Taiwan, 'the Republic of China'

The White House mistakenly called China "the Republic of China" in a press release Saturday.
Taiwan is the Republic of China. China is the People's Republic of China.
The press release detailed President Trump's remarks to Chinese President Xi Jinping at a bilateral meeting at the G-20 summit.
Taiwan has, at different points in history, been held by China and Japan. China does not recognize the sovereignty of Taiwan's government and officially supports the One-China policy in which Taiwan is a part of mainland China. The U.S. recognizes the One-China policy as well.

Those names are similar in their words and even meaning, albeit one is a Communist country and one is not.

and inexcusably called a Navy Corpsman a 'Corpse-man'.
He made scores of such rookie errors (long into his alleged administation), and the alleged "news" media was not especially alarmed.
As a related sidelight, Mister Obama was never pressed, but one doubts that the alleged CIC had a mere clue as to military ranks among the services, or what they did. If asked a military question, he would have embarrassed himself, had he tried to answer.
I wish we didn’t support the ‘One China’ Policy. I have had Taiwanese friends who definitely didn’t want to be part of China.

So, the WH made the mistake. Trump didn’t so there’s really nothing for the msm to get hyper about. It would NEVER have been mentioned if it were some random secretary from the last administration.
