Before young American men get back to work, they should switch off the video console.
Younger mens working hours have declined more than those of older men over the last 15 years, according to a working paper by researchers at Princeton University, the University of Chicago and the University of Rochester and distributed by the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Cambridge, Mass.-based research group. The researchers analyzed how people spend their time when they are not working.
Older men are more likely to be employed than those who are younger. Some 66 percent of men looking for jobs aged 20 to 24 were employed in 2016, compared to 82 percent of those 25 to 29, 86.5 percent of those 30 to 34, 87 percent of those 35 to 39 and 87 percent of those 40 to 44, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Personally, I’d blame the Obama economy more than anything else.
Young guys, for the most part nowadays want to go straight to the cubicle and make 100K with no practical experience in the field. I'm not surprised they're not working
I talked to theowner. Of a machine shop. He said that it is hard to find a young applicant who understands fractions and decimals. They claim that they don’t need to know then to run a cnc machine!
“We can’t find any guys under 40 - 50 that we’d consider to hire and believe me, we’re looking.”
Engineers? College grads?
Where I work, they hire people of nearly all age ranges. We have 18 year olds, and we have people in their 80’s. A few of the young men DO spend their nights playing video games, and then can’t show up for work in the morning. No blanket statements here though. Some of the young people who work with us are outstanding.
I started playing computer games when I was 21 and a young PO2 in the Navy. They were as time-consuming and addictive then as they are now (Bard’s Tale, the Ultima series, those great Sid Meier games, etc.).
The games got better. The computers got incredibly better! I still play computer games at age 54. I’ve been well-employed for my entire life. I’m still married to my wife who was with me when I bought that first copy of F-15 Strike Eagle. Video games caused me to not spend a lot of time and money on golf, fishing, boat ownership, a Harley, or many of those other “acceptable” hobbies for adult men.
Young men today don’t care about careers because of the hopelessness of working (and I mean doing actual work that will likely be outsourced one day) in a globalist economy and the fact that marrying and making a family for these young men is a sucker bet that will cost him everything in the almost inevitable divorce and child support indenture. Also, as they say, why buy the cow when the milk is free. Today, it isn’t just free, it is thrown at you.
If young men are not working its because someone is making it possible for them not to work.
It’s incentive. Why work yourself to death when the prize is an angry feminist to marry?

True, but if they weren’t playing video games, what would they be doing? Watching TV, going out drinking, other things?
I won’t say that overdoing it isn’t bad, because it definitely can be and I’ve seen what happens. One of my closest friends threw away a promising career because of the blinking lights, and last I heard he was shacking up with like five other guys because none of them could pay even minimal rent. Though I think it was more and more because of a lack of ambition than the games themselves.
We’ve had layabouts in every generation, and we have them here as well. Just that their mode of entertainment is gaming instead of other things.

YOU SAID IT.
I’ve given up dating for now; I figure that if I meet someone that the good Lord wants me to marry, it’ll happen. For now, it’s just not worth it!
Dear Maria,
Don’t think of them as unemployed think of them
as future drone operators...
“Its incentive. Why work yourself to death when the prize is an angry feminist to marry?”
That’s right! Why would anyone want to be a slave in the rat-race, paying off the racked up credit card debt of a crazy feminist wife? Video games are way better. And you can save money too, even from a mediocre job (it costs very little to support a single male).
You would be shocked at the number of college students who have no understanding of fractions or decimals.
If you ask them, “which is larger, .01 or .1 for some reason they say .01. When asked why, they’ll say, “everything works backwards to the right of the decimal.”
It’s not just one or two who say that. They must be taught that in elementary school.
Single men require far less to exist than a female, and dont spend cash on useless trinkets and 100s of pairs of shoes.
They also are not interested in wasting their money on buying a girl free meals or taking her on trips in order to bask in her vaulted “company”, especially the type you have out there these days.
So lots of males dont need 50 hour a week jobs, or some soul-sucking gig to accumulate wealth to win the “approval” of a female. They aren’t looking for it.
They are cool with what they have, because that’s all that they need. Hell a lot of them have huge savings accounts because they aren’t dating.
There was a brief period in the 1990s when I played some of the early computer games like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. The first version of Quake also. Again, I got tired of them and the noise made my head hurt after a while.
I do like to play Blackjack online every now and then but it's much better in the casino.
>>I’m about your age but video games never caught on with me.
I get that. A man’s hobbies are his hobbies. We all have some hobby that we spend too much time and money on (at least according to our wives).
I have a good friend who spends several thousand dollars a year and at least 12 hours a week on golf. He says that computer gaming is silly and that I need to take up golf.
I notice that women tend not to have hobbies. When I was younger, I was a stamp and coin collector. I do not know any women that collect stamps and coins or anything for that matter. Well I do know a women who likes to collect refrigerator magnets and her entire refrigerator is covered in them.
