For a minute there, things were looking up for President Donald Trump. By late last week, his approval rating was hovering around 40 percent, which isn't great but marked an improvement for the former reality TV star. But then Trump spent the holiday weekend railing against the press and blasting off tweetstormsand the president's approval rating took a plunge.
Gallup's tracking poll pegged Trump's approval at just 37 percent to start off July, while disapproval stood at 57 percent. Last week, Gallup found the president's approval rating had briefly climbed to 40 percent before the fall-off back into the 30s.
The Gallup poll interviewed 1,500 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. Trump's 37 percent approval rating is dismal, especially for a president so early in his tenure, when the American people typically afford the office a grace period of sorts. Around this point in his first term, for instance, former President Barack Obama had a 60 percent approval rating.
Things have gotten so bad for Trump that far more people support impeaching him than support the job he's doing in the Oval Office. A survey in recent weeks from Public Policy Pollinga firm that does public surveys as well as polling for Democratic candidatesfound that 47 percent of voters supported impeaching Trump. Americans could, perhaps, feel that way because 49 percent believed the president had obstructed justice in the ongoing investigation into his ties to Russia, according to the Public Policy Polling survey.
Even Trump's average approval rating is a long ways off from the support for his impeachment. The weighted average from data-focused website FiveThirtyEight pegged his approval rating at just 39.5 percent Monday, while 54.4 percent disapproved.

Newsweak is a shadow of the magazine is used to be. I even a subscription for it years ago. When I cancelled in the 1990s, they inudated my house with mail and phone calls, begging me to come back. I flat out told them that their leftwing bias had done them in, and this was 25 years ago.
At the link, you see a ridiculous video of "thousands of protesters" chanting and marching against Trump. There a few hundred of them at best in most of the shots, and these "crowds" are dwarfed by the rallies we have seen for Trump. The massive support Trump received in Poland, with crowds chanting USA! were about 1,000 times bigger than any of these "protests across the USA."
If the media was not dead, we are watching it dying before our very eyes.
Does Newsweak even still exist? Isn’t just a blog now? Wasn’t it sold for a DOLLAR to some other company?
What a low rent hack publication.
It is amazing the way these delusional asses can generate “proof” of anything they need to believe. They are not addressing reality, rather, they are running from it. This will cause immense trouble very shortly down the line.
Maybe in a few weeks, someone will pay a whole 5 bucks for CNN.
Democrats wanted to impeach Richard M. Nixon in his first term, LONG before Watergate.
Democrats were upset with Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard M. Nixon but I don’t recall that they wanted him impeached over it.
Democrats wanted Ronald Wilson Reagan impeached (early in his first term and even more so when ‘Iran-Contra’ broke).
Democrats tried alleging that George H.W. Bush “fixed” the 1980 election by making a deal with Iran to hold the hostages until Reagan won. Oliver Stoned was even going to make a hackpiece film based on Brought To Light but he couldn’t get a distribution deal in time to impact the 1988 election so he dropped those plans and went back to Hollyweird productions about the 60s.
Democrats wanted George W. Bush impeached numerous times.
Their calls for the impeachment of Donald J. Trump are nothing new.
The peaceful transfer of power from Rat to Republican ended over 50 years ago (over 60 if you accept that Kennedy stole the 1960 election).
Newsweek?
What’s that? Some kind of news pamphlet that comes out once a week?
How did all that impeachment business for ol’ bj work out for the Republicans.
Fake opinion polls are issued to shape public opinion and not to reflect it.
Remember they’re always D+ oversampled.
Despite them, Democrats haven’t been able to win four special elections held to date.
Why even post such garbage here? Haven’t we learned in the last few elections here and abroad that polls are wildly inaccurate? Haven’t we learned that they are manipulated massively to support the Left’s perspective? There is not a single poll I believe no matter what the damned things say. No matter if they say something positive or negative regarding the perspective I hold.
“A survey in recent weeks from Public Policy Pollinga firm that does public surveys as well as polling for Democratic candidates...”
Nuff said.
Ask leading questions to select liberal voters and you get the results you want.
They don’t reflect reality.
They mention Obama’s 60% approval rating at a similar point in time but they leave out the fact he lost the House a year later.
Yeah, that’s what passes for “reporting” these days. No news; all agenda-driven. Journalists believe every one in the country thinks like them.
They don’t get it.
So what seriously does the radical left think, Trump impeachment (for what again?) means hillary becomes president??
it ain’t happening and your lies will not make it a “thing”
In all the reports of “impeachment” that I have seen,
why haven’t there been any Caucasians stirring the dust?
Why does Maxine Waters, and her $4M outside her district house, not raise a stink? doesn’t that make her a rich slum lord?
I remember that old saying:
“if you don’t have any enemies, you are not doing thiings right.”
Seriously, the reason they’re obsessed with the Russian election conspiracy and Trump’s America First worldview is they have no alternative ideas and policies to offer the country.
All they have is hate and a refusal to accept the fact they lost the last election. They don’t know how to deal with Trump because he doesn’t seek to be liked by them.
He won last year despite and without them and they have no real leverage over him.
Yes, I accept Kennedy stole the election; I remember my parents were absolutely livid.
Fake news!
Let say they do impeach him. That’s still a long way from getting the Senate to remove him from office.
I want them to keep talking like that because they’re delusional and they’re convinced they can railroad Trump out of office.
He’s not afraid of them and will do what he thinks is right for the country.
In other news, Tim Marcin still has to scribble for NewsWEAK...
epic fail.
