Pyongyang claims a further breakthrough toward a nuclear-tipped missile that can reach American cities
SEOULThe U.S. warned North Korea that it is ready to fight if provoked, as Pyongyang claimed another weapons-development breakthrough following its launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile a day earlier.
The regime, having demonstrated its capacity to reach the U.S. with a missile, on Wednesday touted another achievement of the test launch: It claimed that its missile warheadthe forward section, which carries the explosivecan withstand the extreme heat and pressure of re-entering the earths atmosphere.
If truethe claim couldnt be independently verifiedthat would clear another hurdle in developing a nuclear-tipped missile that can reach American cities.
As tensions between Washington and Pyongyang rose, Gen. Vincent Brooks, the top American military commander in South Korea, said in a statement Wednesday that the U.S. and South Korea are prepared to go to war with the North if given the order.
Earlier in the day, allied armies conducted a rare live-fire drill, launching tactical surface-to-surface missiles off the east coast of Koreaan action they said was aimed directly at countering North Koreas destabilizing and unlawful actions on July 4.
The drill and tough language appeared meant to reassure Seoul after North Koreas successful ICBM test, a significant advance.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson described the development as an escalation of the threat to the U.S. It came despite years of sanctions and warnings aimed at preventing Kim Jong Uns regime from reaching the milestone.
Washington has considered military action against North Korea, but pulling the trigger presents serious risks. Seoul, a city of 10 million, sits just 35 miles from the North Korean border, where Pyongyang has assembled artillery that could inflict devastating damage on the densely populated South Korean capital.

Please identify the artillery with such range.
Stealth bombers could take out artillary, comms, radar
and power beforr the North knew what happened.
But but but....we've already been at war with North Korea....since WWII.
Time to end it?
Yeah, I know. Wikipedia. Probably made the whole thing up.
Not.
Yeah. I know. Wikipedia.
They probably made the whole thing up.
Not.
Hmmmmm...Seattle, full of "enemies domestic"...queers, moonbats, bums, parasites, and other communists.....
Seoul....Christians, an economic and manufacturing powerhouse, a major trading partner,, the sixth most competitive city in the world.
How about we keep Seoul, and have him take out Seattle, Portland and San Fransicko? Then blow him up.
The actual distance from the DMZ to Seoul is 35 miles, not 30km.

With Rocket Assisted shells, it has a maximum range of 37 miles.
Just how many such shells do they have?
And how many Koksan 170mm tubes are within range of Seoul?
500?
You asked. I answered. Twice, in fact. I've done part of your homework for you. Now, if you want to support your (apparent) claim that the Norks don't realistically threaten Seoul, you'll have to do the rest of the heavy lifting yourself.
What you CAN NOT do is claim that no artillery with range >= 35 miles exists. You now know that it does. Furthermore, if you count rocket artillery (Does the target know the difference when it's getting blown up?), the range is much greater than your 35 mile threshold.
I await your well sourced essay on the quantity and quality of Nork artillery.
North Korea won’t ever train its weapons on China, so China could not care less if the NORKS have nukes.
Actually the Chicoms probably in some covert form are giving the green light to the NORKS to yank our chain. If the shooting starts they may reevaluate their position.
Are you holding your breath?
Of course not. I’m fully confident that you won’t deliver.
Not sure that’s true.
Is now the time to buy oil stock? Oil always spike when a major military event happens.
China has no excuse.
The wildcard is still China. Will they defend NK or eat popcorn and watch it happen?

Certainly, contrary to what I posted, Norklandia can hit Seoul with artillery.
But out of their total 20,000 artillery pieces there are but around 1,000 with sufficient range and within range to do so.
Those battalions will have a short, but very exciting life against counter battery and air suppression.
A single B-1B can carry 24 of these, a B-52 over a dozen:

Nay, any threat to Seoul is minor and short-lived.
Apologies to all the libs and libertarian crypto-liberals here but if a destructive attack happens on Trumps watch without preemption although (D) enabled the psycho in the 1st place (R) will get blamed for the fallout real and political.
Hard to take an isolationist stance when we have invested so much over there in every way. The US and their allies are not going to be attacked with or without nukes without a devastating retaliation and if Russia and China let it happen then they will have to live with the aftermath next door.
