In my case, that one thing is to study the nature and causes of climate change. You put in a long apprenticeship. You spend years learning about the climate system, computer models of climate and climate observations. You start filling a tool kit with the statistical and mathematical methods you’ll need for analyzing complex data sets.
After decades of seeking to advance scientific understanding, reality suddenly shifts, and you are back in the cold darkness of ignorance. The ignorance starts with President Trump. It starts with untruths and alternative facts. The untruth that climate change is a “hoax” engineered by the Chinese. The alternative fact that “nobody really knows” the causes of climate change. Ignorance trickles down from the president to members of his administration, eventually filtering into the public’s consciousness.
Trump has referred to a dark cloud hanging over his administration. The primary cloud I see is the self-created cloud of willful ignorance on the science of climate change. That cloud is a clear and present threat to the lives, livelihoods and health of every person on the planet, now and in the future. This cloud could be easily lifted by the president himself.
But for my own part, I don’t intend to spend the rest of my life in darkness or silently accepting trickle-down ignorance.

The people that can’t tell you what the weather will be on the day of your company picnic in two weeks, do the the Earth’s temperature within 1 degree a hundred years from now.
If the guy wanted to discuss this as a piece of science,and not politics, he would avoid polemical phrases like “trickle-down ignorance”.
But I see he wants to discuss Climate Change as a feature of political ideology.
I’m not saying it’s a hoax, but it’s a hoax.

Scientific fashion - the hems go up, the hems come down. The scientists are the new priesthood and like to think of themselves as custodians of Truth. But, like everyone else, they go where the money is.

And then you sell out to crooked politicians who will make sure you get your lucrative research grants if you give them the results they want. Writing an article in the fake news Washington Post gets you a bonus.
Remember, these were the guys pushing coming ice age 40 years ago....then it was globull warming ten years ago.....now they got it right, it is climate change. Of course the very data they relied upon for both cooling and warming show they has been cooling and warming over the entire life of the planet. This argument does not consider the fact that when the data do not project out according to their prediction, they recalibrate the historical data!

It’s really hell when the research money you receive from the government, and you depend on, and you only receive by “proving” climate change is suddenly cut off.
Just use a simple climate change model.
When the ___________Ice Pack ___________, it proves climate Change.
When the ______________temparatures_____________, it comports with climate change.
When the rain/snow amount is _____________ or ___________, it proves climate change.
Especially to climate "scientists" on gov't grants.
I will admit to being ignorant of climate change. All I ever hear is one side of the debate without any supporting facts and hateful disrespect for those that have other opinions. I am open minded so show me the argument on both sides and I will make up my own mind.
If he’s going to call himself a scientist, then let him present the evidence first. Instead he gives a political rant.
Anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of scientific method should know that we’re going to have to compile daily climate data for several thousand years before we have even the slightest idea whether any of this is true or not.
OK Mr. Climate Scientist: What is the null hypothesis of AGW theory?
In other words, if all humans died suddenly, what would the slope of the mean earth surface temperature be?
Or, to put it more simply, where the hell did all that ice go?
