Apparently, some creep broke into the storeroom where the letters were kept and used them to do the deed.

Schools have alarm systems. If it was from a break-in, why didn't the police find it first? Why did a neighbor see it, then the police were called? Seems the police would have been notified when the break-in occurred. Perhaps it was an inside job and not a break-in at all.
