How grateful are nations that get U.S. military assistance?

American financial, humanitarian and military help began in the second half of the 20th century. Throughout America’s generosity in helping other countries, there has been an underlying, unspoken assumption that there would be gratitude on the part of the recipients. And we do, indeed, see gratitude being expressed -- only to vanish in a very short period of time afterwards, sometimes to the point of hostility replacing the gratitude (this phenomenon is not limited to the United States; we see this occurring time and again between countries).

While there's action taking place they LUV us. Once it quiets down, they want us to get the hell out and leave them alone. The elites for sure. Country bumpkins maybe less so.

Israel and Poland are a couple that remain appreciative.

There’s never been any gratitude from Germany for anything we’ve done there.

Time to pull out.

The Romans exacted “tribute” ( a tax by any other name ) on countries at the edge of their empire to pay for their deployed legions. We need to do the same.

Yep - ad many of those whose bacon we saved, along with the Brits, spit on us. President Trump is fully aware - hence the tough talk about them starting to do their fair share despite the feathers he ruffles.

Not grateful at all. They quickly forgot that but for the USA, the whole European continent would be speaking German today. Snotty, resentful ingrates, all. Pissonthemall.

Didn’t we just pull like $500,000,000.00 from the blue helmet dream? Or suspend it or something.

There are also many examples where the leaders of countries receiving aid turn against the people they rule and become oppressors. The citizens then come to hate us for the military aid we provided when it’s used to repress those citizens.

Every single one regards us as a mark. And we are.

Every single one is a liability.

There’s never been any gratitude from Germany for anything we’ve done there.

In Germany, we were occupiers, and we have never stopped occupying. In Japan, too.

When I went to South Korea last August, I ran across quite a few Koreans who were grateful. And the Hard Rock café in Seoul gives a military discount to American military.

South Korea is a gorgeous country.

“In Germany, we were occupiers, and we have never stopped occupying. In Japan, too.”

Japan was asking for it, and deserves to be occupied.

We defended West Germany for 50 years starting with the Berlin airlift, from the Soviet Union...

...At great cost to the US and with nothing but animosity from West Germans and now all Germany.

They’re not our allies and they have NEVER been our friends.

Umm, agree with your comment with the exception about the Brits. They’ve been pretty reliable allies beginning with WWI, with the exception of Vietnam and they didn’t have a dog in that one.
