Trump: ‘America Always Affirmed that Liberty Comes from Our Creator’

Saturday, President Donald Trump said in his “Celebrate Freedom Rally” speech honoring veterans at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. that ever since signing the Declaration of Independence, America had “affirmed that liberty comes from our creator,” adding that “no earthly force can ever take those rights away.”

“Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence 241 years ago, America always affirmed that liberty comes from our creator,” Trump declared. “Our rights are given to us by God and no earthly force can ever take those rights away. That is why my administration is returning that power back to where it belongs — to the people.”

I posted this brief discussion of the Preamble linked to the Declaration of Independence back in 2010.


I think there is one bridging phrase to the Declaration of Independence that is in the Constitution, which can be seen as a link to "unalienable rights."

Preamble

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Note the use of the phrase "Blessings of Liberty." They didn't say "liberty," they said "blessings of liberty." They also capitalized Blessings and Liberty. Why?

In the Declaration of Independence, the Founders said:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Note the use of capitalization for Life, Liberty, and Happiness. Also note that these refer to the rights endowed by the Creator, which would be blessings. By this language, is it possible that Founders meant the Constitution to establish a government that secured the blessing of the unalienable right to Liberty?

Therefore, when they spoke of "securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity," wouldn't those referred to as "our posterity" be the unborn children who were also "blessed" with the right to Liberty, and the other unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence?

Absolutely!

One side note. The word “unalienable”. A lot people mispronounce this word and it sounds like it’s unalienable. As if they are talking about space aliens. Haha!

Anyhow, it should be spoken as un-a-lien-able meaning government cannot put a lien on a Right that belongs to Sentient or Human Beings (a.k.a. Souls or Consciousness, etc) comes from our Creator.

Therefore, they cannot take away (as if it were a privilege), what they never granted to us in the first place.

The way I, and I believe most folks, read it is that certain rights cannot be “alienated” (taken away) from us.

Unalienable can also mean that these right cannot be misconstrued or otherwise misinterpreted to mean something else.

Alienation is not "taking away"; it is any form of transfer to another party.

I have a car, and I have a house. I can sell, trade, or give them away, and they become "alienated" as far as I am concerned.

So, when we call the inherent rights with which we are "endowed" (another good technical term) by the Creator "inalienable", the meaning is that they can't be transferred to somebody else — not by conquest, nor by sale, nor even by a vote.
