I wonder which Soros organization spearheaded this?

Only $500? What happened to the first $13,000 she had to pay before insurance kicked in? Oh wait, that doesn’t count.

I call liberal bull$hit.

Why do I doubt it “went viral”?

Sounds more like CBS News trying to make it do so.

She posted her whole story on Twitter. It was heartbreaking to read. I felt for her as a mom but this child has had millions of our tax dollars going into his heart surgeries. He’s been sick since birth. What do we do in cases like this.

It could drastically alter who pays the costs. The costs don’t change. However they are arranged the taxpayers or the insurance companies or the patient’s family pay those costs.

It's not tax dollars, it's Aetna dollars. And this case, while tragic, is a prime example why premiums have gone through the roof. Under Obamacare insurance companies have no way of limiting their liability.

$500.00 for heart surgery ???

Oh NOZ!

I have to pay $5000 before I can even USE my insurance for anything. And that’s cheap!

The healthcare problem we have today was CAUSED by the feds. As usual government’s solution to the problems they create is more government.

We need to climb up out of unconstitutional federal tyranny and put healthcare where it belongs: in the MARKET ECONOMY FREE from federal interference where before federal interference started in the 60’s, was the best healthcare system in the world.

Aetna is already pulling itself out of almost all exchanges due to huge obamacare-related losses. It’s been in the news. Virginia was one of the most recently announced.

If that is a real invoice, the math doesn't add up: the difference between the charges and the insurance payments is many thousands more than the stated $500 balance.

I come up with about $220,000 - $230,000 costs, for a 15 day stay, something like $15,000 per day. Why doesn't anyone question THOSE charges? For example, $3,581 for an x-ray! Seriously? That is ROBBERY.

The problem is cost: $22K for "room and board" would be considered prima facie evidence of fraud in any other industry.

I had an aunt who fell and fractured her skull in Paris a few years ago: surgery + two weeks in the ICU cost $8K.

We in the US are robbed blind every time we use medical care.

And pulling out now means it will be blamed on Trump and the GOP. People already think "TrumpCare" is the Law of the Land.

Most insurance policies have annual maximum out-of-pocket limits on them. For a chronically sick child, it’s not hard to hit that amount, then the insurance covers the rest. I agree with the poster who mentioned her deductible, unless you see all her bills, this is just a snapshot, and doesn’t really tell the whole story. Nor is it the indictment of ending Obamacare she claims it is.

I have a relative that is a nurse. She told me that the reason why there are charges like that X-ray is because they have to recoup the costs for all the people that don’t pay.

The CNN article I linked to below touches on this. It's just a mess.

I don’t think this will get the expected reaction...most people know you should pay more than $500 for this care...they’ll wonder WHO IS PAYING for all that, and like many here have said...WHY THEIR COSTS ARE SO HIGH COMPARATIVELY.

And in those countries where the health care is cheap? Taxpayers are paying for it. Some family not connected is helping to pay for someone elses health care through taxes.
