My old Pizza Hut manager had a better system. Raises were merit based, but the Regional office in New Hampshire wouldn’t okay anything above $3.90/hour (1981).

That reminds me of Cmdr. Ellsberg's approach in handling Eritrean workers in Massawa, Ethiopia during WWII. One of his duties was to scrape the bottoms of ships bringing supplies to Tobruk - their bottoms were so fouled they could only do four knots and were sitting ducks.

He determined that each ship would need three days in dry dock and hired a bunch of Eritreans at 25c an hour. They were ticked off at that because the imported Somalis were getting 35c an hour (govt. policy) and so barely put any effort into the job, looking to take five or six days.

Threats, etc. made no impact, so he told them that he would pay them for three days work even if they did it in less time. They ended up cleaning each ship in a day and a half.

Bear in mind that most of their locations are franchise operations. What you’re proposing would require the individual franchise owners to pull up stakes and move out of state. Not too likely.

I get that. Sucks for them. I guess they figured they could make do in a Nanny State with unfriendly business practices.

Years ago the CEO of Carl’s Jr. Said they were not opening any new stores in CA because of the business environment they were going to expand in TX.

They only paid her between $10.00 and $10.25 per hour.

Damn!

That fine WAS reasoned!

Poor thing. I hope she knows I’m on her side.

They say they already paid the employees and sent over proof, and the city is supposedly reviewing it.

Nah, paying Heidi just $10.00 - $10.25 an hour just isn't right.

Back in the olden days fast food restaurants were allowed to reduce pay a certain amount for meals on premises. An employee would be allowed a maximum meal value for their shift, and that counted toward their pay. I would bet these poor under-paid employees—many of whom are undocumented—eat more than their allowed meal every day. Truth be told the illegals errr undocumented employees owe Carl’s Jr.

All I see is a potential case of melanoma in about five to twenty years.

Yep. I see Carl’s Jr. all the time.

As I drive by them all the time on my way to Whataburger.

When all you got going for your burger chains are soft porn ads, then it must suck for them. I would overlook the ads and actually eat there. But they rate way down the list of burger chains that are better than Carl’s Jr.

When I lived in CA I ate at Carl’s sometimes. Now here in TX it’s always Whataburger.
