Computer systems from Russia to the United States were struck on Tuesday in an international cyberattack that bore similarities to a recent assault that crippled tens of thousands of machines worldwide.
As reports of the attack spread quickly, the Ukrainian government said that several of its ministries, radiation monitoring at the Chernobyl nuclear facility, local banks and metro systems had been affected. A number of companies including the Danish shipping giant Maersk; Rosneft, the Russian energy giant; Saint-Gobain, the French construction materials company; and WPP, the British advertising agency also said they had been targeted.

Jailed? How about stopped dead.
Should we be concerned about if transportation, utilities and weapons can be hacked?
Yes. Needs to be a Capital offense. Then it will stop.
The thing is, an equally valid argument could be made for the imbeciles who don’t keep their windows systems currently patched, and AV software active and paid.
Not to mention those who open email from sources they do not already know.
They are equally at fault. And they endanger infrastructure upon which millions rely.
What’s next, you gonna execute anybody who installs Microsoft’s sieve-ware?

If you have Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 patched with the June 2017 updates from Windows Update, you shouldn’t be vulnerable. And make sure if you’re running an Internet security suite your malware definitions are up to date also.
This is not a duplicate article. The link you gave is about an article on the same subject, but a different article, so this is not a duplicate.
Agreed. As long as we allow ourselves to be bent over a barrel...we will be bent over a barrel.
This ransomware must be a billion dollar or more business at least...to someone.
I say, treat it like piracy. Cut off the hands, cover them with tar, and suspend them in cages outside computer stores.
For the bodies, put them in a cage outside of IT conventions, game conventions, etc.
Use special forces teams to hunt them down and kill them.
A properly patched Windows system with all the AV/Malware protections installed is as good as anything else.
It’s not like we can run BSD anymore.
The Linux variants lack features and applications, so much so as to make them undesirable for most users.
But the bulk of attacks are against unpatched and unprotected Windows systems. And those are myriad.
As a result of simple negligence.
The antivirus vendors agree with you.
Maybe we should mandate healthcare too...oh wait!
Correction, caught and exterminated.
