Following the election and inauguration of Donald Trump, sales of George Orwells classic dystopian novel 1984 skyrocketed to number one on the Amazon bestseller list. The books publisher, Penguin, even ordered 75,000 reprints of the book. It was only a matter of time before the Trump bump for Orwells book would turn into a Broadway production. However, due to its graphic portrayal of grotesque torture scenes, its caused audience members to faint, vomit, and even get into fistfights. In a similar fashion to the novel, the play, starring Tom Sturridge as Winston Smith and Olivia Wilde as Julia (his illegal love interest), follows the two evading the government, Big Brother, and the propaganda it uses to control the masses.

Sounds like a Hillary speech.
Is it finally available? Last I checked they weren’t selling it. Some issues with the format. I’ve been reading a converted PDF copy off an on. Pretty brutal. The Missionaries is another in the same vein, although with a much lighter approach.
“Julia (his illegal love interest),”
Sounds heteronormative and a tool of cis-oppression.
Resist and Occupy 1984.
I did that too, the PDF, and it’s unreadable on my Kindle.
Yes, it looks like the Amazons finally have the e-book.
If 1984 was North Korea’s primer, Raspail’s book is the Euro’s blueprint for self destruction, silly Euros.
“Sacre blu, I warned zem and everzing.” Jean
Maybe not. I think it's pure cynicism because the Left always accuses the Right of doing exactly what they're doing themselves. It's also proof that education has been selectively dumbed-down to indoctrinate students. When I studied Orwell there was no question about who Big Brother represented.
George Orwell was a fierce anti-communist. The book was a cautionary tale of what happens when communism goes unchecked. Stupid liberals. Once again, they’re on the wrong side.
> Its totally lost on the leftists that this book is about them.
But you forget, sez Orwell, that to a leftist, black is white & up is down. Thus it follows that, to them, according to Big Brother speaking in their ear, that conservatives are, in fact, Big Brother.
It makes perfect sense.
Isn’t Herman Wouk a great author. He’s my favorite.
It’s been available for Kindle at least since last summer, as that’s when I read it. I could hardly believe that it was written in 1973.
You are totally correct. It is a primer for what’s happening in much of Europe today.
Exactly.
The original 1984 was a warning against the very socialism and government control that liberals love.
>>Its totally lost on the leftists that this book is about them.<<
But they’re the smartest people in the world, right? In any case, the more of them that read 1984, the better. Some of it has got to sink in eventually.
But then I had the same hope for Hunger Games. Maybe the left is just incapable of rational thought today. Hmmm...that could actually be supported by the available evidence I suppose.
Did they mis the part where the government is Socialist?
Amazon still shows, for me, unavailable as eBook. The PDF is rough, but readable. It think I converted it to MOBI using Calibre. It sticks some numbers randomly in the text sometimes. A nice clean Kindle copy would be ideal.
I had to look too, still unavailable for Kindle, but at least it is available in paperback if someone really wanted it.
I checked my Kindle list, and it seems I was mistaken about when I read it. I ordered it in May of 2015, so I must have read it that summer. I read way too much!
