Try a thought experiment: Consider immigrants in the U.S. from Algeria, Israel and Japan and rank them, from highest to lowest, by educational attainment. Heres the correct order, according to data from the Census Bureau: Algerians have average schooling of 14.7 years, followed by Israelis with 14.5 years, and Japanese with 14.3.
Surprised? Consider an additional fact: Algerians represent about 1 in 2,500 immigrants in the U.S., whereas Israelis are 1 in 350 and Japanese 1 in 100. Heres another counterintuitive result: The average educational level in Mexico, 8.5 years, is almost twice that of India, 4.4 years. Yet Indian immigrants in the U.S. average 16 years of schooling, whereas Mexican immigrants average nine years.
What explains this? Americas immigration policy is far from evenhanded. A potential immigrants country of origin is an important determinant of his or her likelihood of being admitted.
PHOTO: GETTY IMAGES The U.S. rations its immigration slots, granting permanent residency to about one million people a year. But demand is so high that more than four million are denied residency and remain in the queue. Some origin countries are highly favored, and others are implicitly penalized. If immigration reflected the world population, India would send four times as many people to the U.S. as it actually does; Mexico would send 1/15th as many. Immigrants from the least-favored countries tend to be the elite...

Those numbers are skewed by the law of averages.
India has 1.3 billion people, and over half of them
live in rural areas and are nearly illiterate.
Most of the Indians who show up here though have
Masters Degrees.
Formula: go to work at a job. Any job. Do not commit crime. No rape, no murder, no burning cars of buildings. Don’t use heads as bowling balls. Don’t go on welfare. Don’t pop out babies that you make US pay for!

Compare those numbers to these.
Sobering when you think of the effect of open border immigration

Maybe.
But perhaps more important is that the largest percentage of Indians who come to the USA are from high-level castes like the Brahmins. They are the people who have the greatest advantages back in India, like the highest levels of education, income, etc.
Meanwhile, the Indians from the low-level castes — like the untouchables — usually get the wrong end of the stick and seldom make it over the pond to the USA.
Remember Bell Curve, Genetics and IQ tests?
Oh that’s right, that’s racist.
It is not uncommon for some to go to school just to get stipends from their countries and not have to work. This is very common for graduate students to get multiple masters after getting a doctorate just for this reason.

Well, that’s an argument for overhauling our immigration laws to favor EDUCATED immigrants.
Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Singapore all have POINTS systems that favor educated and skilled migrants. We should too.
I saw nothing about success in the article. Just education year levels. And as I see what the US higher education system is churning out, 20 years of racial/lesbian/polysci/etc studies don’t do a damn bit of good when trying to get into the Work force!

Every one of my kids did not participate in that child corrupting system we call Public School.
The bus ride alone is enough to make your head spin.
The education level in Mexico seems kind of irrelevant. Maybe if he knew the education level of the legal and illegal immigrants from Mexico in the United States he could make a point.
I call that total bullshit, WSJ or not...
Define "immigrants" and "educational attainment," then we can talk.
Even that brain dead doofus, Tom Sullivan was carrying on about provisional temporary residence for illegals from south of the border, "while we provide them with education in a trade," totally ignoring that 70% of them are ILLITERATE IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, NEVER MIND English!
How you gonna train them???.
How will they communicate with customers?
Yesterday, in a Costco parking lot a harridan Mexican and her 5-marimba bastards from 5-16 were tarrying around inside and outside a late model van, and she started screaming at me to close my door while she got her 200-pound ass out from the driver seat-- IN SPANISH...
I just smiled and ignored her, then told her I do not understand Spanish. I am fluent in Castilian Spanish, every dialect of Spanish south of the border, as well as a couple of other European languages, but she didn't need to know that.
Schdenfreude, God's gift to invadees.
The blacks in South Africa don’t want immigrants——from Somalia,Nigeria, and other African Nations.
We NEVER hear about that.
Been going on for about 7 years.
The bottom line is our crooked politicians want to pack the country with people who will overlook or not notice their corruption.
Are you brain-dead?
Are you suggesting that all illegals who arrive via Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Singapore are legal immigrants? not rebound from south of the border or koranimal countries?
All from India?
Seriously??
RE: Are you suggesting that all illegals who arrive via Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Singapore are legal immigrants?
Where in my post did I suggest that? Or are you simply IMAGINING the suggestion?
