Tax season may be over, but next year’s taxes will be due before we know it—and at least 1.4 million Americans won’t know that their Social Security numbers are being used by illegal aliens. An Internal Revenue Service report that this is roughly the number of illegal aliens who are impersonating citizens when it comes to file taxes. To make things more maddening, they’re not allowed to work with the Department of Homeland Security on finding the identities of these people. Stephen Dinan at The Washington Times had more:
Most illegal immigrants who pay taxes have stolen someone else’s legal identity, and the IRS doesn’t do a very good job of letting those American citizens and legal immigrants know they’re being impersonated, the tax agency’s inspector general said in a new report released Thursday.

“Cases of employment identity theft can cause significant burden to innocent taxpayers, including the incorrect computation of taxes based on income that does not belong to them,” said J. Russell George, the inspector general.
It’s long been a conundrum in the federal government.
The IRS knows of 2.4 million people a year who file taxes using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, which is generally given out to immigrants who aren’t authorized to work. But the IRS is not allowed to talk with Homeland Security to help agents identify who and where those taxpayers are.

The migrants file their forms with their ITINs, but the W-2 forms they submit show valid Social Security numbers that they fraudulently gave to their employer to clear an initial work authorization check.
A staggering 87 percent of forms filed online using ITINs showed income credited to a Social Security number. More than half of forms filed by paper also showed that same fraudulent behavior.

I knew this was a bunch of crap even then.
They use it to get the earned income tax credit and bennies.
It is just despicable that the US government is helping illegal aliens corrupt our entire system and victimize our citizens.

“Many” of them are using “multiple” SS#. They use one to get free housing, free food, free medical care and more....they use another one to gain employment.
The employment one... they do pay some “initial” taxes. But in the end they come out ripping us on that one too. Because they have been allowed to claim many dependent children.
At the end of the year they pocket thousands of our tax-dollars into their pockets by way of earned income credit and other loopholes.
They have been fleecing the honest, hard working American for far too long! If the IRS wanted to stop it ....they could, IMO.
I have been under audit for 2 years due to 2 people using my SS number, one in Sacramento (where I got the first call from the IRS and one in Atlanta. I live in San Diego for 30 years.
It’s a total MESS still not cleared up.
Can Trump fix this with a PD? If not Congress needs to do it. Now.
I watched a documentary about a guy living in Louisiana, he had his SS used to work and get huge tax returns in another state up north. For seven years the IRS refused to look at the evidence he provided, telling him it was not their responsibility. He lost his credit, his property, everything, as the IRS continued to prosecute him.
I’ve got a potential client coming this week who is an identity theft victim. He used to be a corrections officer, and he thinks a former inmate at the prison where he worked is the culprit. He says he’s got bogus debts on his credit report as well as a criminal history that’s not his. I know how to handle the bogus debts, but I’m going to have to figure out how to deal with the criminal records.

Meanwhile in SC a former state senator has been selling illegals social security numbers for years.
Even more maddening is how the Social Security Administration handles this: When an illegal gets a green card, their work under the stolen SSN IS CREDITED TO THEM PERMANENTLY.
Yes, our Govt REWARDS them for criminal fraud!

And when those people go to retire and have their social security cut because they earn too much money, who will help them?
I R S needs to protect citizens. When earnings are reported from two different states for the same time period a red flag should go up.
They’re also stealing minor SS#s. When mom/dad cosign for kids (auto loan) for first time, they discover that Juan or Jose has been using their kids socials. Not always for credit either so has to be for the freebies.

The database is there for the gov’t to go after these criminals. The IRS must know as well. No political will to do it..unless legal ramifications.
