The health-care proposal unveiled by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday came under immediate attack from conservative and centrist Republican senators as well as industry officials, casting the bills viability into doubt even as GOP leaders plan to bring it to a final vote next week.
The 142-page bill, which McConnell (R-Ky.) released after weeks of drafting it in secrecy, drew swift criticism from hard-right senators who argued it does not go far enough in undoing Barack Obamas signature health-care law the Affordable Care Act. It also prompted an outcry from centrist senators and medical organizations worried that it takes on the law, known as Obamacare, too aggressively and would lead to million losing their health care or receiving fewer benefits.
These critics effectively delivered their opening bids in what is expected to be a contentious week of negotiations. McConnell is trying to pass the bill before the July 4 recess, with Republican leaders seeking to quickly learn whether they will be able to fulfill years of promises to roll back the law or whether its time to turn to other items on their legislative agenda, such as overhauling the tax code.
No Republican senators definitively said they would vote against the bill, instead focusing attention on the provisions that would need to be changed to earn their vote. President Trump predicted the final product is going to be great but only after some more negotiations take place.
The next big showdown will come early next week when the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office releases its analysis of the bill.

Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she also has concerns about some of the provisions. She opposes blocking federal funding for Planned Parenthood, as the Senate bill would, and said she was unsettled by the changes to Medicaid that would result in long-term federal spending cuts to the program.
These Senators’ opposition will result in changes making it better.
“These Senators opposition will result in changes making it better.”
exactly. as it stands, it just another version of ryancare.
Screw Collins but I think we can work with the other 4 to get it done. I think they have some legitimate concerns. As for Collins we do not need her sorry vote. 51 votes will get it done. 50 plus Pence if need be.
Sounds like we’re close and these senators, outside of Collins’ Marxist demand to fund killing children, should be positive changes. Pence can vote to offset her no vote, can’t he?
It does not go far enough. I would rather see it pass because it accomplishes a lot. Failing that, I would like to see 20, 50, or even 100 small bills that each nibble away at one corner of Obamacare. Either way, I would like to see the federal role in my medical care evaporate completely.
Thank God nobody is talking about enforcing long standing Federal Laws prohibiting the very model health care is built upon. I read about 10 pages of out anti-trust laws, it is basically a detailed description of our current health care system. The Entire Industry is committing multiple Felonies by the Hour.
The Sherman Act outlaws every contract, combination, or conspiracy in restraint of trade, and any monopolization, attempted monopolization, or conspiracy or combination to monopolize. Long ago, the Supreme Court decided that the Sherman Act does not prohibit every restraint of trade, only those that are unreasonable. For instance, in some sense, an agreement between two individuals to form a partnership restrains trade, but may not do so unreasonably, and thus may be lawful under the antitrust laws. On the other hand, certain acts are considered so harmful to competition that they are almost always illegal. These include plain arrangements among competing individuals or businesses to fix prices, divide markets, or rig bids. These acts are per se violations of the Sherman Act; in other words, no defense or justification is allowed.

Not much of this matters.
The bill has to cut premiums and pass both houses. The rest of this gobbledygook will interest ZERO voters. But if those two criteria don’t happen, the GOP loses both houses in 2018.
Nope, it will result in the continuation of Obamacare which the Pubs now own for at least 2 more years.
There is so much BS in the Compost, you would only have to compost it for a couple of minutes, before using it.
Idiot Savantes passed a retarded bill...

Essentially aggressive enforcement of anti-trust ended during the Reagan administration. We now have most industries dominated by monopolies and oligopolies — “too big to fail banks”, Wal-Mart, Amazon, Boeing — in collusion with big government.
Well done, Senators! All we want is 0-care repealed. Allow insurance across state lines, allow people to form insurance groups, and follow Rand Paul’s insightful recommendations. Make foreign nationals pay for their medical care. If they cannot or will not, make their country of origin pay for their medical care. Make hospitals provide people an itemized estimate of their bills before they use their services so they can shop for the best deals. These are just some thoughts.
I think McConnell will table it and move on to tax cuts.....we are witnessing the beginning of the screwing we are about to get. I don’t think the rino leadership ever had any intension of killing Obamacare!!!
50 Billion in payouts to insurers.. I hope they don’t pass it. Ridiculous.
It is now clear that Obamacare is here to stay. It has become a permanent entitlement. The House bill, the Senate bill or some negotiated compromise-doesn’t matter.
Nothing will change at the consumer level and there isn’t more than a handful of legislators in the whole country who even want change.
Half the country will continue to receive free or almost free healthcare.
The other half of the country will continue to see premiums and deductibles skyrocket.
The super rich will get super richer.
The insurance companies will make out like the bandits they are.
The US government will careen further and further into its debt-ridden black hole until it eventually explodes the entire socio-economic fabric of the country.
And the media will blame it all on conservatives.
‘It won’t pass’
Yes it will.
Good Grief! Just get the government out of our lives. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal. Repeal.
TAKE REPLACE OFF THE TABLE.
Pass individual laws that will reduce health care costs like, tort reform, stop drug company advertisement, no care for illegals.
Let’s see where we are after debate and amendments over the next week or so.
