Simple solution... don’t pay the pensions.

That’s it. It’s not like overspending on road repairs or state parks is what put IL in this sad shape. Yet the Democrat-controlled legislature refuses to deal with the heart of the issue (pensions and unions) because they know it would be the end of their power.

IL’s financial mess has nothing to do with not having enough income. This is a wealthy state with many assets. It has everything to do with overspending on entitlement to unionized workers and then their pensions after they retire.

You’ve got to change the Illinois state constitution first, as it has a clause prohibiting the reduction of pensions. And we are (allegedly) a nation of laws.

But you are on the right track. With Trump in office, the only way out for Illinois is to drop that clause in its constitution.
