Shortened title.
Full title: Fred Fleitz: The North Korean Government Murdered Otto Warmbier as Obama Administration Did Almost Nothing
Fred Fleitz, senior vice president for Policy and Programs at the Center for Security Policy and former CIA analyst, joined Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Tuesday to discuss the death of Otto Warmbier just days after returning from North Korea. He also talked about the possibility that Loretta Lynch will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Fleitz said, This is just such a terrible story. The North Korean government murdered this young man. They murdered him. And we know that North Korea is a criminal regime. But what Im very angry about is how the Obama administration did almost nothing to get him back.
There were no consular visits, Fleitz continued, which are required under international law by the state representing us, Sweden, to check on him while he was in prison. There were none.

The person most responsible for the death of Otto Warmbier is Otto Warmbier.
He chose to travel to a dangerous country that’s openly hostile to America and that murders its own citizens for the flimsiest reasons.
It’s all on him for making a stupid choice to prove some ridiculous liberal point about diversity or cultural understanding or some other nonsense.
In short he was stupid and now he’s dead.
White privilege.
I will say the Obama administration was AWOL on this issue and a lot of others.
Why? After all, it wasn’t as if it was one of Øbama’s sons.
Far be it from me to defend Obama, but North Korea was responsible for his death. And the only reason why they released him was because they didn't want him to die in their custody.
I would agree that what he did was stupid, but he didn’t deserve to die as a result. The two are separate from each other - interrelated, yes, but two separate things.
At a time like this - no, at all times - a little compassion might be in order.
Was it because he was white?
Sounds like statements from Obama and just today from John “Insane” McCain
The last time I checked, Americans are not protected by the US Constitution while in North Korea. No Due Process, No 8th Amendment, No ACLU.
Otto screwed-up.
“Was it because he was white?”
It was because he was in North Korea and subject to their justice system.
Becuase Otto was WHITE, maybe?
I am loathe to blame the victim, but Otto Warmbier bears some responsibility for his death. There are certain places you just don’t go. North Korea, Iran, most of the former Soviet “Trashcanistan” states, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen. Applying a local flavor, I live near Indianapolis and I know that you just don’t go to 42nd & Post or to Haughville after sundown. I could have told Indy 500 driver Scott Dixon that the Taco Bell at 16th & Warman was NOT a good idea; there was just a shooting at the strip club a block away.
It’s not rocket science. It’s basic Darwinism. There are places you just don’t go.
Almost nothing? That’s pretty generous.
Oh wait, they did tell the family to keep their mouths shut, that’s something.
They didn’t even make consular visits because he was in NK and subject to their laws? That’s what the State department is supposed to do. Did they even try?
+1
And Obama had no problem having Bergdahl’s back. Traitors stick together, I guess.
Yes, the Obama administration is responsible. Otto might have made a mistake in visiting North Korea at all, but he was an American citizen with the full force and protection of the American government (at least until the Obama administration). I think many of us have forgotten what being an American means. It means our government has our back no matter what stupid messes we might find ourselves in.”
Could you cite the part of the US Constitution that provides American citizens with immunity from other nations’ justice systems while visiting other countries?
“They didnt even make consular visits because he was in NK and subject to their laws? Thats what the State department is supposed to do. Did they even try?”
Apparently not.
I do agree that sometime between the time Otto was detained and the time of his release by NK there should have been at least a third party nation consular visit.
