A Department of Veterans Affairs official has taken the novel step of filing a Freedom of Information Act request against her own VA department in order to learn what a whistleblower has been saying about her.
The whistleblower is Scott Davis, a well-known VA official who has testified in Congress and has made several TV appearances about the troubled VA. He told the Washington Examiner on Monday that he was stripped of some of his final duties in his Atlanta job, weeks after warning that retaliation against whistleblowers is on the rise at the VA.
The other VA official is Angel Lawrence, director of the Health Eligibility Center in Atlanta. Lawrence filed a FOIA request to obtain any email Davis might possess that was sent between Lawrence and any other VA employee.

And while the VA said Lawrence's request was done as a private citizen, Davis said she has gotten subordinates to push him to comply with that request, a privilege that no private citizen would have.

The VA is such an important support organization. And it is so badly run. Really infuriating.
When you blow the whistle, always assume you will be out of a job.
That is life. Whistle blower laws are not going to protect you.
If the issue is that bad, report it by all means, but do not plan on staying.
Anyone who believes their NoFEAR Act training is really too stupid to hold a federal job, anyway. Maybe it is a good way to clean out the bottom of the barrel.

I once worked on a consulting project for the VA. Based on my observations it IS badly run. Its basically just another self-interested bureaucracy. I never heard anyone there say “what can we do today to help our veterans?”
Being a veteran myself, I found their attitude and bureaucratic mindset very disturbing.
Having a significant disability rating from my time in the service, the va here in roseburg, oregon has been my primary medical provider. I have had nothing but excellent service there.
Here is Scott Davis, whistleblower and patriot.
Unable to find image of his antagonist, Angel Lawrence, anywhere. Wonder how that happens?
Love your user name. ;) Glad you have been served honorably. There have been very good responses about VA hospitals, and very bad. Same as local hospitals. The important thing is when there is a systematic problem it should be addressed.
