I can see that, particularly in the Triangle and the Charlotte area. Crime in the Triad is through the roof in the past year or two - mostly gang+drug related.
Rural NC, and the 'burbs? Not so much, not yet anyway. They don't have the ridiculous land management that CA has....at least, not yet.
The state is a lot bluer that it was 20 years ago, though, that's for sure. I'm curious to see what immigration reform does to it over the next 4-8 years. I think you might see a shift back, as illegals go home.
My mother grew up in Sunnyside, a neighborhood in Winston-Salem now regarded as part of a larger area called Waughtown. It’s startling to go there anymore, I wonder if there are any English speakers left. It’s now known as Little Mexico.
