I trained and worked at the polls in November. Never did it before. OH has a system now with backup paper ballots where the numbers have to tally by a counter before they're reported, with witnesses from both parties observing the process., before they're reported. If it doesn't tally, the paper ballots have to be hand counted. There are so many layers of complexity and checks that I can't see how anyone could manipulate the votes on voting day.

But then there's early walk-in voting at country election HQ and mail-in early absentee voting (has to be postmarked before voting day). All that effort to keep the voting stations honest, and these two glaring gaps!

I'm glad I had the experience. The poll workers take their jobs very seriously. The training was good. What I found most astonishing is that I did walk-in early voting at county headquarters. It was all very professional, very well done, everything possible happened to make voters feel secure and confident taking public transportation to vote. What was kind of funny was I had to show more ID to get my senior discounted rate to ride the bus than I did to vote!

This was in Cuyahoga County. One can't assume anything in Cuyahoga County is typical.

My son, who is a career army sergeant, is a computer whiz and can do a lot of stuff he says he doesn't do. He said something interesting about voting machine manipulation. There was a video out before the election with a detailed demonstration of how a voting machines could be hacked from a central location and could be set to read out believable results with a proportional tally system. I wasn't sure about all that, being computer illiterate as far as stuff on the other side of the screen and forwarded him the video with a ? . He emailed back that yes it was possible, not so easily as the video portrayed but quite doable. He said that a lot of geeks were aware of it and there was a digital struggle before and during the vote with geeks countering a major attempt. He wouldn't say whether he participated or just "observed" digitally. He said the hacker(s?) trying to do the manipulation were not expecting to be countered so they did not work to firewall their efforts. I don't know. Son doesn't make up stories, though, in my experience.

Most of the fraud is on the front end. Multiple registrations, aliens voting, etc. Without prosecutions, its very tough to stop.
