Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called the investigation into Russian interference into the election, and if President Trump obstructed that investigation, is a "legalistic nightmare" that's trying to block his agenda.
Gingrich, an outspoken defender of Trump who is promoting a book he's written about the new president, said on ABC on Sunday that questions about whether Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein should follow Attorney General Jeff Sessions' lead and recuse himself from the Russia investigation are just a distraction.
"This whole game of recusal now, this is a nightmare," he said. "I don't think people realize this: You have this legalistic nightmare trying to block the Trump presidency."
Gingrich said there's no evidence Trump colluded with the Kremlin in order to win the 2016 presidential election and called the rumors swirling around the administration unfounded speculation.
He said there's no evidence of a crime committed by Trump and that means there shouldn't be an investigation into the president.
"If you don't have a crime, what is it you're investigating?" he said.
He added, "No one has suggested that Donald Trump had anything to do with collusion with the Russians. There's not a bit of evidence of that."
He called on lawmakers investigating Trump's administration, and the FBI, to show their proof of Trump possibly being involved in any collusion with Russia.
"If you have any evidence that Donald Trump is personally involved, then show it," he said.
Perhaps Trump should open an investigation against Walter Mondale as the mastermind behind Russia hacking the election.
The media would go nuts. “Where is the evidence??” they would shout. Totally bogus charge against an 89-year-old for no reason at all!!!
And it’s every bit as valid as the charge against Trump.
newt needs to quiet down and get out of the way
Even if you wanted to ‘collude’ with Russia to alter the Presidential election, how would you accomplish this? If the Russian’s had this capacity, why would they need Trump? As far as I can tell, the only thing that could even remotely be traced to the Russians would be the DNC hacking - and that only revealed the truth about the unethical practices of the DNC - including the DNC manipulating its own primary to favor Hillary.
The heck with that. Show me who’s speaking up for the President. Thank God he’s out there.
Newt’s the only prominent Republican defending Trump in any way.
Destroy the Deep State.
First, abolish the govt employee unions.
Second, abolish the civil service system.
Out of control bureaucrats are exercising power beyond their authority.
Destroy them now.
The President should just fire Rosenstein and Dirty Bob Mueller. If the dems want an investigation that goes nowhere, the Clinton Foundation can fund it. I am tired of seeing American Taxpayer money getting spent on nonsense like this. If they can’t get enough cash from the Clintons, they could hire Kathy Griffin to headline a fundraiser.
yes, you are right, I take it back
There’s also Mike Huckabee.
Exactly, Newt is the only Republican speaking the truth. The other Republicans are abandoning the President for the usual reasons. Some were never with him in the first place and are participating actively in the coup. Others are Stockholm syndrome Republicans who accept as gospel anything the MSM publishes and are not with any Republican President, EVER!! Others want to be above the fray and invited to the cocktail parties. Others are just plain cowardly.

This is what the entrenched DC establishment is hoping for. We must do our part to not let this happen.
The Deep State had been primed ..... ready to move as soon as Hillary settled into the Oval Office. Plans in place to discard everything purely American in favor of their “enlightened lib/progressivism.”
Hillary's loss threw a wrench into the works.....the loss has made the Deep restless and wanting.
Their frustrations, desperation......the weeping and gnashing of teeth must be of Biblical proportions......
That said.........we have no intention of backing down....the D/S has no idea what they're up against.
“Newt Gingrich: ‘Legalistic nightmare’ being formulated to block Trump’s agenda”
Washington is infested with socialists. That cancer is of our own making and will probably last forever.
That cesspool of anti-American people will need to be eliminated entirely for any changes to be realized.
Well, Shakespeare did say over 400 years ago: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.”
Rather than or in addition to taking to twitter to complain the President should appoint another Special Counsel to investigate the real crimes here. Don’t fire Comey or Mueller. Instead, use the very system they are using against them.
The new special counsel will investigate:
Any obstruction of the investigation into Mrs. Clinton’s handling of classified information, including by those in the FBI in charge of such investigation.
Any obstruction into the investigation (or lack thereof) of the Clinton Foundation.
The circumstances surrounding the use of surveillance against private US citizens and the unmasking of their names.
The leaking of classified information from the Trump White House and the consequences of those leaks.
The misappropriation of government documents.
Any and all matters related to the above (including all circumstances that lead to the appointment of a special counsel.)
Is anyone home in the White House at home? Is there anyone there who remembers that the President has the bully pulpit? When was the last time he held a rally? It’s time to come forth and tell the American People what is happening in DC. Call out the coup d’etat. Call out the congress.
Twitter alone is insufficient.
Yes, eight years of Clinton and Obama along with 12 years of Bushism has the left the bureaucracy almost completely populated by globalists.
I have this sense that this country is irretrievable.
I think the common phrase is FUBAR.
Right on!!!
Did you mean to say:
16 years of Clinton/Obama which were hardly interrupted at all by 8 years of W?
