When Mt Pinatubo blew, the ash deposits were said to be 24” at the US Air Base at Clark Field. The base was abandoned.

The Clark Air Base lease expired before Mt Pinatubo and the Filipinos would not renew it. After Pinatubo blew they tried to extend the lease but the US said no.
