The Homeland Security Department announced on Thursday that it would keep in place the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, allowing undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to remain in the country.
The decision breaks a key campaign promise by Trump to "immediately terminate" the DACA program and stands at odds with the president's vows to crackdown on illegal immigration.
In an announcement posted on the DHS website Thursday night, the department said that the memo that created DACA "will remain in effect." A fact sheet posted along with the announcement reaffirmed that the program's original provisions would remain in place.
"DACA recipients will continue to be eligible as outlined in the June 15, 2012, memorandum. DACA recipients who were issued three-year extensions before the district courts injunction will not be affected, and will be eligible to seek a two-year extension upon their expiration," the fact sheet reads. "No work permits will be terminated prior to their current expiration dates."
The program impacts about 800,000 people in the U.S., and while Trump has suggested since taking office that he would not seek to deport DACA recipients, the DHS decision on Thursday quells concerns that the administration could do away with the policy.
Oh, so you’re willing to give up Obamacare repeal, deporting drug dealers, deporting welfare leeches, and a conservative Supreme Court justice because you want to deport a bunch of DACA kids NOW rather than later.
Whatever you say, Veruca.
You’re playing the racist card???? Oh brother.
I want to do it all and there is not reason why it can’t all be done. The LAW(s) is already on the books.
It's amazing how many anti-Trump comments like yours are coming from posters out of Texas...Most inquisitive.
DACA itself is a target.
Because the instant you repeal it, you get Congress starting to lose their cajones again.
So as I’m asking you...
What are you willing to give up?
Correct. TRUMP always supported the LAW. He did say if congress doesn’t like the law, they should try to change it.
Later, he said that DACA was a hard thing, that there would be a deportation of sorts, but where some could come back in, in an expedited manner. The media called it a “touch back” program, or something similar.
Your post makes no sense.
Enforce existing law. Period.
Point 5 was written in future tense.
Trump is going to enforce the law. As president, he can grant mercy, he can officially deport, but he can bring certain cases, such as DACA kids, right back in. A president has some power, it turns out. (We learned that under Obama.)
Heh.
Must be nice to live in a world where one decision never affects any of the decisions anywhere else.
You repeal this program and I guarantee that you see the spinless GOP cucks in Congress instantly lining up to denounce it. You get their donors lining up in order to force them to kill numerous Trump bills.
It sucks, but that’s the way it is.
As I said, limited resources, and one of those resources is how much pressure the President can put onto Congress. Kill this program right now, and you forfeit huge swaths of that influence.
The nation is suffering from a heart attack. DACA is a broken leg. It can wait.
“And we are learning that campaign talk by Trump is even cheaper.”
Only in the minds of America’s enemies is this so.
> he can bring certain cases, such as DACA kids, right back in.
That’s nonsense.
HA.
Logical Fallacy: Argumentum Ad Lapidem.
You’ve at least got the talking points of the never-Trumpers and the Veruca Salt conservatives down pat.
“Later, he said that DACA was a hard thing, that there would be a deportation of sorts, but where some could come back in, in an expedited manner.”
He did not say that...he was talking about ALL illegals, not DACA. Stop trying to twist your lies into truth.
I am amazed at how many here at FR are turning out to be the enemy. You lie just like the MSM, you lie just like the Democrats and you lie just like the never Trumpers. Stop pretending you support this President and then lying to hurt him.
I always thought Free Republic was a step above most blog sites, but people like you have shown me that this place is infested with cowards and liars.
President Trump doesn’t need your support, because you never really gave it to him and we will do just fine without you.
Don’t be a whipped dog.
So I’ve been watching politics my whole life and still can’t believe how ruthless and despicable the media and DC politics are.
So I think it’s refreshing to hear a presidential advisor speak the truth.
I don’t care what experience she has. Trump picked her and I’m good with it. However, it does appear that she is a very capable young woman.
Didn’t Gingrich say Mueller was great and has now turned on Mueller??? Gingrich has said more things I don’t want to hear from a presidential advisor than Ivanka has.
More nonsense. WTH is “veruca salt?
Also, Trump has enough people around him that he can’t trust. Can you not let him have a few that he knows he can???
Wow, another logical fail AND popular culture fail all rolled up into one!
Sorry buddy; only thing I’m gonna give you now is scornful laughter.
If you can’t make your point that’s your problem.
Voters who want to show their displeasure will not vote in the House races.
