Russia claimed Friday it killed the leader of the Islamic State group in an airstrike targeting a meeting of ISIS leaders just outside the group's de facto capital in Syria.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in a Russian strike in late May along with other senior group commanders.
There had been previous reports of al-Baghdadi being killed but they did not turn out to be true. The ISIS leader last released an audio on Nov. 3, urging his followers to keep up the fight for Mosul as they defend the city against a major offensive that began weeks earlier.
The spokesman for the U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition said in a statement Friday he could not confirm the Russian claim.

The official that does confirm the kill with Russia better look out; he, she, or it could be up for colluding with the ROOSIANS.
Russia hacked ISIS? Time for a special counsel and impeachment hearings!
Boy it’s all over the news and Twitter.
Better be true.
Perhaps McStain could call up his bud Al Bag-Daddy and see if he answers his cell phone.

Gee. Maybe there's nothing left of him.
I too have recently killed Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
I think this is the 5th time, I heard about this guy’s demise.
He was reported once before to have been badly injured, it sounded like they were talking being paralyzed. And another time, having been poisoned. Wait and see.
how many times have we killed this dude? 8 ? 9?
But seriously, the probability is rising, as the battlespace is shrinking.
Maybe the Russians are publicizing this just to screw with the jihadis - make troops give up, or tempt Baghdadi to stick his head up to reassure his troops.
yeah. al zawahiri. Protected by pawkeestahhhhn. creeps.
