Congressman Steve Scalise is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the hip during GOP baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.
The most recent medical update on Congressman Scalise is that he is in stable condition after undergoing surgery. This update comes from Representative Joe Barton, who said in a press conference today that Scalise is now stable.
This came about an hour after the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the hospital that is treating Scalise, said that Scalise was in critical condition.
CNN reported on Wednesday that Congressman Scalises staff say it is unclear whether he will have a second surgery.
Scalise has been out of surgery for a few hours now, with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announcing as much earlier today. McCarthy said earlier today that Scalise was doing well after the surgery.
It was briefly reported this afternoon that Scalise was in stable condition after coming out of surgery, but this was soon contradicted by the official statement from the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Later, Joe Barton said that Scalise is now stable.
Prior to undergoing surgery, Steve Scalise was evidently in good spirits and was doing well enough to speak with his wife Jennifer over the phone.
Prior to entering surgery, the Whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone, Scalises office said in a statement earlier. He is grateful for the brave actions of U.S. Capitol Police, first responders, and colleagues.
Scalises office went on to say, We ask that you keep the Whip and others harmed in this incident in your thoughts and prayers. This office will release additional information regarding the Whips condition as appropriate. His office has not since released any further updates.
This post will be updated throughout the afternoon as more information on Steve Scalises medical status become available.
On the morning of June 14th, a man opened fire at a Republican baseball practice. In addition to Steve Scalise, four others were shot: two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner; a congressional aide, Zack Barth; and a lobbyist, Matt Mika.
Matt Mika is in critical condition at the hospital, his family says.
David Baileys injuries were not believed to be life threatening earlier today, according to CNN. Zack Barth is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery, according to his employer, Roger Williams. There have been no recent updates on Crystal Griner.
The shooter is suspected to be James T. Hodgkinson, who posted anti-Trump and anti-Republican content on his Facebook page. Representative Jeff Duncan of South Carolina told BuzzFeed News that he heard the suspected shooter ask if those practicing baseball were Democrats or Republicans.
Bloombergs Jennifer Jacobs reported on Wednesday afternoon that the mood at the White House has turned grim as news of Scalises critical condition circulated.
That ain't going to work.
Regarding Steve Scalise condition: After the injury he took, its location, the length of time he was down and without medical intervention/care, and from seeing the video of him being carried and loaded into the ambulance, I believed we was critically injured at that time.
That he is still alive now, 10 hours after being shot and critically injured, and has not had to go back into surgery, is a good sign to my view.
Trauma doctors, the trauma team, the rescue crew... all worked very valiantly to get him this far and undoubtedly have done their very best to save his life. Now it’s up to the Grace of God and time.
Please continue praying for him and for the staffer as well.
In a war, the enemy must die
That’s right, these people are outlaws, brazen outlaws, they want revolution, and it’s time for the empire to strike back.
It’s another shooting done by a mentally ill person.
Because leftism is a serious mental disorder.
Isn’t this where Seth Rich was, “treated”?
Just saying...
I see you dooming and glooming ALL OVER THE PLACE today.
Either you are inherently depressed or happy about it.
I dont now which one.
Go away.
Fox is reporting critical condition.
I see from your bio here that you admit you had to change jobs due to a severe head injury....
Somehow, we knew that without you having to admit it....
Hopefully the “critical condition” status is precautionary post-op. Thanks for the update.
Prayers.

And what’s your excuse-—you were just born that way?
Nasty post.
Yes it was nasty, as he is, and totally true.
Bullet wounds have a way of demanding respect for the reality of a situation, a position he does not want to take.
BTW, the admission of a head injury was his admission, not mine.
I didn’t even read it lol.
But thanks Mears.
I knew he would be petty and nasty so I went right by his post :)
