I have a book called ‘The Commissar Vanishes’, and it goes through
all the known photographs involved in airbrushing and the
removal of known companions.
There is one fascinating person that was airbrushed out - and after
a lengthy stay at a re-education facility had his picture taken
with Stalin once again.
It is interesting, and a very large book. Not think, but large.
