Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that President Trump should allow special counsel Robert Mueller to “do his job independently” and that Ryan would be “surprised” if the president fired Mueller — a step some Trump allies say is being considered.
"I'd be surprised if he did that," Ryan said in an interview on the “Hugh Hewitt Show.” "I think he should let Bob Mueller do his job, do his job independently, and do his job quickly, because I think that that's what he would want to have happen."

Because of the way a Speaker is elected, around 30 of the most liberal GOP House members can veto a GOP Speaker candidate, as can around 30 of the most conservative GOP House members. Any Republican Speaker is going to be a squish.

This investigation is not really about Russia any longer. Ryan may be surprised if Trump fires the special counsel but I am expecting it.
Exactly! Why do we need a “special counsel” to investigate Russian influence on U.S. Elections? The President was not a target of investigation under Comey’s FBI.
