I certainly think its a good idea for the trip if Rodman is able to convince Kim to give up his nuclear weapons program and open up North Korea completely to an effective inspections program. If this fails then Rodman will just need to come home and it’ll be for Kim like early 2003 was for Saddam. Only this time we should let the South Korean army do almost all the boots-on-the-ground work. It’s their country, not ours.
I agree on the first part, and disagree on the second.
Involving South Korea would lead to the assumption that South Korea would then occupy and absorb North Korea. This would be objectionable with China.
The most important thing here is to achieve a non-nuclear North Korea. Unification is not the most desired objective.
